I disagree: 6A does not care about the piddling revenue it gets from paying members, the advertising revenue is significantly larger. And advertising revenue is a function of the number of readers, basic or paying.

The content we create is why readers come to LJ: by staying instead of migrating to other sites, we are encouraging them with advertising revenue.

If anything is to be done, it is not stopping payments, it is leaving for a better alternative. The only question is which one? Because sooner or later, big business will try to make a buck off of us and our content, regardless of where we hide. I personally do not think it is a coincidence that this is happening so soon after the fanlib fiasco drove LJ into public exposure, greater than it ever had before, since it used to show up badly against MySpace until big business (the entertainment industry) realized that we were creating valuable content (valuable at least in the sense that it attracts readerships and thus, advertising revenue at the very minimum).

Thank you for the injection of sanity.

Advertisers are paying LJ for the privilege of showing us ads. The advertisers don't much care whether we are paid, plus, or basic users. What they care about are potential view/clicks. This is what I tried to get across in a post on my own journal. The only way to "stick it" to LJ/6A is to leave. Because if I have a choice between allowing LJ to whore me out for advertising money to fund their exercise of censorship or going elsewhere and letting them have the censored MySpace clone that they seem so enamored with, leaving would seem to be the sensible choice.

That being said, it's never gonna happen. The simple truth of the matter is that this actually only affected a very small number of people. And while it's easy to get all outraged on their behalf, people are not likely to sacrifice their own happiness and comfort on LJ just to make a point about something that really didn't affect them in the first place.
