The new system will still support the "Friends" security level, as well as custom friends groups, but these settings will always match your LiveJournal account's friends list or custom friends groups.

The old system has its own security settings which aren't directly connected to a LiveJournal account, and doesn't have a "Friends" security setting. The closest settings it has is an "All groups" option to give access to anyone you have added to a custom friends group in Scrapbook, or the custom group "LJ:all_friends" which is automatically created for you with all your friends added when your Scrapbook was first created. The problem with each of these is that they don't stay synched with your LiveJournal account's friends list or custom friends groups. You can edit the LJ:all_friends group to add or remove people without actually adding or removing them from your friends list.

Either that, or his Scrapbook cookie had been eaten. Scrapbook login uses a separate cookie from regular LJ login, and it has been known to not set properly in some circumstances/browser setups. I personally tend to have to log in and then re-save my options to log in to Scrapbook, despite not having some of the extensions that are known to cause problems.

How do I make sure no one loses access to pics?

Specifically, I'd like to be able to:

- For groups that exist in SB but not in LJ, automatically import them to LJ
- For groups that exist in both, show me those who have different users, so I can reconcile them.

Then, I can inform the old-SB-to-new-SB converter that it should preserve the groups instead of making all my images private (and nmaking converting a nightmare, because if I read you right, there is no way after the conversion that I can tell which group(s) used to have access to a given picture).
