Update: LiveJournal is refunding any paid account payments from December, they just have not announced it here. This is probably because it's creating an opportunity to lose more money, but legally they are covering their asses by providing refunds if requested thanks to the billing/autopay bug. They'd have potential legal consequences otherwise.

You can submit a request here: http://www.livejournal.com/contact/?dept=billing

Accounts paid in November or any month before December will not be refunded, however. (Thus my opinion that this is strictly legal ass covering.)

Where did you even hear about that? I can't believe they're just trying to sweep this under the rug considering they claimed users were LYING about it when it happened!

Every time I think they can't get worse, something else like this happens! D:

It's on Plurk. People have been Plurking updates about their interactions with LiveJournal - there's a new, Public Plurk recently going around about people who have been given refunds if they had told the billing team they've been unable to use the accounts they paid for due to site changes or had billing problems.

http://www.plurk.com/p/f8mhkn This might be able to explain better.

Excellent - thanks! I want to make sure as many people as possible know about it.

If you're talking about the paid compensation, that was two weeks of free paid time added to paid accounts for DDoS downtime.

This is an outright refund of paid accounts purchased in december. As in returning money you originally paid to LiveJournal.

that's... a really shitty way for them to handle it, actually. i paid in novemeber - which means i paid for december at that time, but i can't get a refund? and what about people who make annual purchases?

Thanks for this. I actually got refunds on two of my accounts today after sending the email in .... today. Fast huh? Here's what the LJ reply email stated, just so people can see what they're saying. (cut and pasted) I agree with you, it seriously looks like they're just covering their asses.

"Thank you for your inquiry. LiveJournal does not normally provide refunds for past purchases. However, as a one-time courtesy, I can refund any purchase that was made within the last month (December 9th or after).

Of the accounts you listed, only your "xxx" and "xx" accounts have had a payment in that time period. I've refunded the purchases for your "xxx" account from December 10th and 19th, and your purchase for your "xxx" from December 17th.

Unfortunately, your payments for the other accounts, "yyy" on December 4th and "yy" on November 8th, occurred too long ago for me to be able to refund those. I am sorry I cannot accommodate your request for those accounts."
