It's possible to ban someone (and defriend them) from the little menu that pops up when you hover over someone's userhead.

I've accidentally done both before.... :\ Maybe that's what happened?

The free v-gifts aren't picnic baskets, still ice cream cones. :)

Thank for you making the share buttons optional and turn off by default this time. And thank you for the user search button!! So much more useful and easy then inputting it in manually.

Sorry if I'm asking a stupid question but does this mean that we can post publicly without there being any facebook button. In other words is it safe to unlock all my fics?

I don't use Facebook at all but would someone who has a facebook profile be able to link one of my fics.

If you post publicly then anyone, whether they use Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Friendster, ICQ, AIM, SameTime, WebEx, or even just e-mail can link to your public post.

Edit: Hell, there are browser plugins that add even more options than what LJ has available.

Thanks for your answer. I'll leave them locked then.

All these "Share" buttons do (I dislike them mostly because they clutter up pages with colourful buttons for options I will never do) is make it easier for people to do what they can, and always have been able to, do manually. Anyone can copy the whole content of your posts and repost it anywhere, and anyone who is able to read your post can get its address from the address bar. So if you strongly want to protect your content from being reposted or read by people who shouldn't read it, you should indeed post it locked.

A lot of people seem to object to those "sharing" features because they think that their content is more secure without them, but it's at best security through obscurity, or through hoping that people are lazy enough not to do the manual work.
