Spam, Help Japan, Header design contest

Last week, we ramped up our spam-fighting efforts with several new tactics. As a result, we suspended more than a quarter of a million spam journals! Unfortunately, a number of legitimate accounts were inadvertently suspended in the process -- around 1% or so of those suspended. Ahh, we've been so busy tackling the notifications and spam issue that we haven't had time to discuss it at any length. My apologies. We will definitely post in news once we have more details worked out.

Does LJ actually give away free things to people who ask for them? Because I see this every news post.

you usually get just one (the one at the top "frank's weekly giveaway) but this person keeps begging for loads of free gifts cause she can't afford them and they're oh so important to her and she needs them. even had the balls to ask for free charity ones at one point (knowing they were charity and apologizing, but asked for them anyway).

unless this is a different person but the name looks familiar.

what makes me laugh is LJ gives them to her/her friends too. maybe we should all start doing it since most of use have to pay if we want them. what's the point in putting a price if one special person who begs for them gets them for free.

Ah, I thought their username looked familiar, but wasn't sure so I didn't say anything. The constant begging is quite annoying, I can't believe they actually give into it. Usually they have a little sob story to go along with it, as well. Either they're the most unfortunate person on LJ or they're just very good at lying.
