What is the point of making friends on LJ if you filter them and never read their posts. See the point for communities, but that's really rude to do to actual people, idk.

It could be for more one-sided relationships where they want to see your locked stuff but you're not interested in their entries. Like if you post about fandom stuff (or whatever that people are into) and don't mind letting people read that but don't really want to get to know the other person better.

Also it's useful for splitting up lots of posts on your friends page. Like you group your fandom related friends and communities together, and your icon communities together, and your personal friends together or whatever. I guess for people who want to read similar things grouped together.

Your first paragraph is what I use it for :) I like letting people read my locked posts, because it's fun fandom stuff I'd rather not just have ANYONE who comes by be able to read, but I often get friended by people who never post in English or whose main fandoms are something I'm not really into, so this is helpful.
