When LiveJournal, Inc., was launched in December the new team made it very clear that LiveJournal was going to change. We also said that we would respect the values and legacy of LiveJournal. First of all, I would like to note with the fact that I'm Russian. You won't realize that if you read any of my LiveJournal posts. I mostly use LJ to communicate with my friends in another countries, although I do chat with some people from my own country. It is the last ones that I wanted to mention.

Russian people, as a whole, despise excessive advertising. We have this kind of button that makes us want to ignore and mock something the more it is advertised. It might have something with Vladislav Listyev, the best journalist and one of the finest men our country ever spawned, being murdered on the doorstep of his home for refusing to let advertisements appear on his channel. Or it might have something to do with our getting sick of propaganda over the years. In either case, we despise advertising more than anything in the world.

Of all Russians I ever met, I only found two types. Those using Basic Accounts and those using Paid. As someone who despises advertising, an average Russian person would most likely not join LiveJournal if ( ... )
