This is a quick reminder that the Permanent Account sale ends tonight, Thursday, June 28th at 11:59PM PDT. Once the sale is over, we have no idea when there's going to be another one

See my previous comment here. I will attempt to make another comment here, in (vain) hopes that someone at LJ will actually listen.
There are people screaming about porn and freedom of speech. People are being silly and posting stupid pictures and song lyrics and inane babbling. I've even participated. We know we're being silly. We're frustrated and angry. We've tried posting reasonable questions, well-thought arguments and requests for clarification. You have remained silent. And we are angry and are trying to get your attention any way we can. Hence the cat macros and spammage.
This isn't about porn. This isn't about freedom of speech. This is about deplorable customer service. This is about you PROMISING us that you will consider a journal as a whole, in context, that you will warn first, give users a chance to take something objectionable down, that you will save deletion as a last resort for the worst offenders. This is about you giving us "clarifications" that do not clarify and then not answering our questions

Thanks for explaining the seething masses. I can understand how it'd be hard for someone just wandering in to understand what was going on and/or get the wrong idea.
Yes, I can see now that I've posted this comment that it was smack in the middle of a bunch of ancient greek gay porn. So I wonder if people will actually see it. I will probably re-post it later on in the thread. But yes, with all the junk--some of which is hilarious, btw--it would be easy for people not aware of the situation to get a completely wrong idea about what's going on.
I actually linked directly to your comment in my journal. It's flocked, so not that many people will find it that way, and I hope you don't mind, but I really do think it's one of the better explanations. I'd post it over at the digg. thread too, if you didn't object, except I'm not registered over there, and I don't actually want to be.
I see you have a permanent account, too. You'll probably think me crazy, but the main reason I went for it was to be able to have so many more icons. I don't understand why GJ gives us 2,000! and LJ's max is 138. I wonder if it's because GJ has more advertising support.
A lot of my LJ friends have opened GJs now because of the LJ mess, but I really don't see what's to be gained by that. Six-Apart owns both, so I'd think they'd have the same TOS for both and the same thing could happen at GJ that's happening here. Any thoughts on that subject?
My permanent account was a gift from my family, something I'm mightily infuriated about at the moment, because LJ is being such asshats. But that's another story. I had been a paid user with extra icons before then, too, just so I could have the icons. I set up a GJ and was pretty excited about the 2000 icons.
But I had absolutely NO idea that SixApart owns greatestjournal, too. A lot of fandomers are going there, and I don't think they know that, or they wouldn't be. *headdesk* Shit. Well, from what I understand, most of the fandomers who are going to GJ (or IJ) are seeing it as a temporary place until we can get a for-fen by-fen journaling site up and going. So perhaps GJ will be a waystop for most people rather than the end destination. Because I know that people want nothing to do with SixApart anymore.

Some other LJers have posted a link to this in their own LJs, so more people than you think are probably going to see it. That's how I found it.
Well done....BTW *applauds*

Thank you. I noticed a lot of good ones among the comments here. I'm always on the lookout for amusing icons.
