Maloney has a fleeting impulse to touch him on the arm, for whose reassurance he can’t tell. But he doesn’t. He doesn’t know if anyone touches Lipton. He’s seen Easy’s first sergeant cradle a wounded man’s head in his arms without self-consciousness, but it only goes one way. To touch and not to be touched, to give of himself and not to take: like sitting on the other side of the confessional screen.

WOW, you're not kidding. I read this and thought, this is it! This is why I'm so utterly in love with the moment in Last Patrol when Luz puts a blanket over Lip. (And then of course, all of Speirs' exasperated concern and the promotion at the end.) I love people taking care of Lip like I love Winters taking care of Nixon.

Ok, maybe I should go tell the author all this, huh?

Great recs, thank you! (Claim is somethin' else..! Hoo, boy.)

I very nearly quoted that very passage, but I wanted people to come across it for themselves. :) So glad you enjoyed it, and I'm sure no author will ever turn down a kind word about their fic!

Oops, sorry for quoting! 8-) Feel free to delete my comment -- I won't mind at all.

Oh no, it's no trouble at all! I'm glad you highlighted it -- it really deserves to be called out!

(And true about "Claim," right? It really got to me, in a good way, and still does on every reread.)

Ooh, recs, recs are always good.

Whose Faces I Do Not Recall has long been a favourite of mine. I love minor character fic in general, and I love that story's depiction of Father Maloney and his role supporting the others. If I recall right (the writers who've been and gone from the fandom sometimes get a little jumbled up in my head), likethesun2 is damn good at that bittersweet, thoughtful stuff.

I'm not familiar with SPN, having only watched the episodes with the Trickster in, but the line about the Stitch and Bitch club made me actually chuckle out loud.

And you are all too kind for reccing me, too. I'm flattered.

One nice thing about a fandom with such an established history is being able to go back and discover all these wonderful things that came along before your time! You're so right about what I've seen of likethesun2 -- I found a heartbreaking piece about Buck Compton in the hospital that will probably make it onto my next recs post.

Ha! Well, SPN is marvelous, and that fic is marvelous even without knowing the canon, probable -- about all you need to know is one character is an angel and the other is a demon, and one each is working alongside the Winchester boys.

Hey, I rec 'em like I see 'em. It was a lovely vignette -- keep writing, you! <3

Ross is so tired that he’s started to think in the American accent and he’s sure if someone came across him on the path, he’d salute and answer faster to Liebgott than he would his own name.

I can wait for my drabble, if you need time to think of it.

Yeah, I haven't forgotten it! I'm just not always the timeliest -- but it will come! Thanks for being patient.
