Back to shoes: the all-important question

Sep 09, 2011 14:43

Don't mind me, I just... really want a pair of WWI-era-style boots. /o\

Frye, why do you do this to me? You're nearly as bad as Fluevog. )

shoes are my anti-drug

OMG. SO HOT.

I used to own a pair of boots like that. Unfortunately, I bought them when I was 11 and then my feet grew. Stupid feet.

It's tragic how they do that! /o\

Yikes. But so lovely.

The Fryes I hanker after are the Harness 12Rs, but I don't know if that's just because they look so hardcore or because one of my original characters wears boots a bit like them!

Oh dang, those are fantastic boots. I confess, I'm having somewhat similar angst (completely unrelated to the price)!

Oh god, they're gorgeous. Sort of thing I can imagine on the feet of some badass cavalry officer. But nearly $400? Jesus Christ!

Coincidentally, I've been looking for boots myself - my old jump boots are getting worn and are losing their watertightness, which is usually the point at which I know they need replacing.

I think I've been a bit spoiled by army surplus, since the prices at high street stores for nice boots are astonishing. I might just get another pair of the same type, they're reasonably affordable even when brand new, and dirt-cheap if you don't mind them a bit dinged-up.

And if it's really fancy brown army boots you want, you can get authentic reproduction Corcoran jump boots for about $150 - that's a bit out of my price range, but it's a whole lot more affordable than those ones!

Good point about army surplus. And also about the Corcorans; my existing pair of winter boots were somewhere around $150, which is not cheap but certainly less expensive than what Zappos quoted for the Fryes I was hankering after (more like $250-300).

Oh no, now I have to question whether I'm obsessed with these because of War Horse or not!

Is Ron Livingston's assessment of "corrugated tin" accurate? I have to admit, I am secretly fond of the "soak 'em in the bathtub" idea.

I couldn't say for sure - the boots I've worn have always been battered old pre-owned ones, so they've already been broken in by somebody else. They do tend to be a bit rough on the soles of your feet, but that might just be my habit of inadvertently always buying ones that are a bit too large.

And oh gosh. War Horse. Do want. (WWI uniform is unfortunately inextricably linked with Blackadder for me now, but even so. Still good.)

I'm generally an 8.5, with an athletic calf, I guess?

Oh man, eBay isn't a terrible idea, honestly.
