Candice is sitting on the parlor table in the suite she and Martel share. She's already aware he's discreetly slunk back into the castle, thanks to Ewar and then Eirene on her way by, but she is waiting so patiently for him to come back, wondering what has happened in the Nexus today. When he reaches her, he's had time enough to clean himself up a little further, but he still needs to change his clothes and maybe soak in the bath for the next six hours. Worn out, dirty, bruised and bloodstained in places is not his best look, and Martel lingers outside the doorway before he's noticed, weighing exactly how well this is going to go.

He does have a perfectly reasonable explanation.

Well.

He has an explanation, anyway.

"My sovereign queen so precise," he remarks, without the usual edge of tease.

...Candice looks up at him very slowly. She doesn't yell, because that isn't generally her way, but she does raise her eyebrows, expression changing to a more expectant one. Yeah, she does want an explanation.

"Well," she says, "you look as though you've had an exciting day."

"I ran into an old friend in the nexus," by his tone and the look of him, 'old' is more 'past tense' than 'long-time'. Martel closes the door behind him before he says anything else, crossing the room to ease into the chair opposite her.

She's looking kind of concerned now, actually. "Are you okay?"
