It was stupid of me, I know. A mistake I shouldn't have made, having lived in Sunnydale. But I had finished work and somehow managed to get myself cornered by vampires. Oh, Goddess. I backed up, feeling the rough brick wall scraping against my shirt. Swallowing, I began muttering a protection spell, hoping against hope that it might actually do something.
And then, just in the nick of time, he arrived, a blur of energy, and the three vampires dust one after the other. The impact of the fight knocks me to my knees, and as he leans over me I look up to smile gratefully at Angel, and - it's not him.
"Are you okay?"
I stare up at him. Another champion? Who is he?
"Who... who are you?"
"I'm back."
The man in the green suit grins at me, and I stare back at him, frankly amazed. I didn't know there were any other heroes working here... Particularly not any who wore actual, bona fide superhero suits.
"N-no, really, I, um, I don't know who you are," I say apologetically. "I'm sorry."
"It's quite alright, you'll have to forgive me...I'm just a little overenthusiastic tonight...it's been awhile. Allow me to introduce myself..."
I step back, and give a slight bow, which could probably be percieved as sarcastically formal. Yeah, that sounds about right.
"The Green Arrow, madam, at your service."
I stand back straight and pause.
I reach slowly for my quiver and produce another arrow, and quickly set it into the bow. I raise it almost directly at the girl and her eyes widen.
I release, and the arrow whizzes right over her shoulder, narrowly and the shadows behind us in the alley are alight with a momentary dusting of vampire.
"Sorry, didn't have time to warn you. Though, you don't need to worry around me...
Well, this man is certainly a different type of hero to Angel. Less brooding and more... showmanlike, maybe? He seems to be enjoying the performance aspect of this, anyway.
My heart almost stops when he lifts the bow and points the arrow at me, but I breathe out with a heady rush of relief when he instead shoots a vampire behind me.
"Sorry, didn't have time to warn you. Though, you don't need to worry around me...
I never miss."
I ponder on whether the "no time" excuse is likely to be true, or if it in fact reflects his desire to show off, but I don't remark on that. Instead I say:
"That's an, um, useful skill to have," and I smile mildly. "D-do you use other weapons, or is the bow, um, particularly special?" I say, more to make conversation than anything else. I feel I should gather information on this new player in town. Angel will want to know... If he's ready to hear about anything, I suppose. After his encounter with Sark, he hasn't really been in the game, as it were. Perhaps this will rouse his interest.

Now that the moment of showmanship is over, not to mention idle banter, it occurs to me I've seen this girl before.
I take a step back and look her up and down.
Yes, I was sure of it. I had seen her several weeks back when I took the case file concerning the Joker to Champion Investigations. She worked for...
"Angel. You're one of Angel's people, aren't you?"
