Too much of anything

Another interesting side effect from the holidays: Life Decluttering. I'm a huge fan of Flylady.net (even though I find even 15 minutes a day hard to practice on occasion). The holidays? Right, so, I went over my Amazon Wish List repeatedly, adding this, dropping that, tweaking those. And I realized that almost half my list items were organizers of ( Read more... )

One of my craft communities had a "stash challenge" recently. Basically, make something out of only the stuff you had on hand. Maybe that's what you need to do. Challenge yourself to do one project each week using only the things you have on hand. Pick a project. Any project. And just DO one. If you absolutely hate it, get rid of everything that pertains to that project and move on.

This is what I was going to suggest. My craft goal for 2011 is to finish all of my quilting/embroidery UFOs - and I can't start a new project unless it's for something with a deadline (e.g. birthday gift).

You're probably too much of a perfectionist to have so many different hobbies, and you forget that skills take time to develop even if you have it right in your head. :)

Ok, stash challenge it is. I did make a stuffed animal net last week. Does it count if I frog something and restart it? I have half a blanket that probably ranges in only 30 rows from 90 to 110 stitches. ={

Nope - frogging and restarting are fine because you're not buying new materials for it and you're going to use what you already have.

I have a craft closet where all crafting stuff "has" to live. If I want to add a project and the closet is full, I either gotta finish something to make room or get rid of unused supplies. And since I'm a pretty cheap person, it really kills me to get rid of stuff. I think the key is in general is not adding until you can remove.

Another thing that helped: A Hobby Lobby employee telling a new person I was there all the time. Yes, I was. But I'm better now! ;)

Ouch. Given the crazy craft-lady title is a bit eye-opening. Ok, step one, get everything back into the closet. ;) Then I know what I have to work with.
