The world only started to die two months ago and that had been two months too long. Just two months ago, Ami was accustomed to the constant buzzing in the back of her mind, the white noise and occasional clarity of another's thought. The brush of emotion against her had been a warm, familiar touch that made her feel apart of the world around her. Now, the few hours that she'd spent surrounded by so many people had pulled and stretched her, rubbed against her in an unfamiliar way. It hadn't been painful, per se, but there was a certain discomfort, like awakening after sleeping on a limb improperly, that was reminiscent of her early days as a Tomorrow Person when she had to learn to manage and handle her abilities.
It was with great relief when their guests piled out of the house to take up residence in the other unoccupied houses nearby. She left the clean up to the others, taking Marie at her earlier words that Ami had done enough - at least for the day. The solitude of her - and Victor's - room allowed Ami to sit quietly and center herself. Admittedly, she could have gone anywhere in the world, but she didn't want to risk having to explain where she went and how if someone came looking for her.
(And I don't want to lie about it. Especially not to Victor.)
Fortunately, Victor -- and everyone else, but the only person Ami truly expected was Victor - must have sensed that she needed a bit of time to herself because he didn't appear even after she'd done a bit of yoga for meditation and scribbled in her journal a bit more. By the time she'd finished with both, Ami did feel considerably more relaxed and confident that she could cope with the next meeting with the various groups tomorrow morning. (It's just a matter of relearning. And I've got a lot more control now than I did when I was fourteen.)
Definitely feeling more relaxed, Ami closed her eyes and let her senses roam a bit. Marcus and Elise were settled into Victor's old room where Jenifer had decided she would put out a sleeping bag to stay close to them. In the morning, there would be a room swap: Marcus could definitely use the crib in the nursery, and folded out the futon was large enough for Jenifer and Elise to share; Syusuke would take Victor's old room.
Thinking of Victor, Ami reached out to sense him and smiled from ear to ear, a tingle spreading throughout her body. The glimmering of an idea came to her. After quickly checking to make sure that the children were sleeping, Ami gathered up a few of the candles from each of the bedrooms - probably left there in case the flashlights failed - and hustled back into the bedroom.
In a few moments the bedroom and bathroom were bathed in the warm red and orange, romantic glow of flickering candlelight and the two person Jacuzzi bathtub filled with water. With a smile, Ami changed her clothes, slipping into a pale peach satin slip nightie, matching robe and for the piece de resistance, coordinated lace tanga. She brushed her hair, admired what she saw in the mirror and then settled at the vanity table in the dressing area off the walk-in closet, just outside the bathroom, to wait for Victor.
She planned to make an entrance.
