Chapter 28

Yoochun wished his old car could go faster. His knuckles were already turning white from grabbing too hard at the steering wheel.

There was no way Yoochun could contact Junsu when the latter’s phone was with him. Junsu must be out of his mind to confront Kang-In alone. Kang-In was a dangerous man. He was cold-blooded and he would not stop to kill someone in his way.

He would kill Junsu.

Yoochun watched Kang-In kill his brother. He could not allow the same thing to happen to Junsu. He could not.

“Junsu…”

Was the only thing Yoochun could utter as he floored his accelerator.

***

Junsu was trying very hard to control his breathing. He had never felt so angry before. He was so angry that he found it hard to breathe. He found it hard to think.

When he heard his mother might stay a vegetable her whole life, he could feel something in him snap. All he wanted was to find this Kim Kang-In and break his neck. He knew the only person who would know where to find him would be Park Yoochun. The only place he knew to find the other man was at Hyesung’s pub.

He had not expected to really find out what he wanted. Once he heard where Kim Kang-In could be found, his limbs just worked on their own. He did not even care if the people in the pub could hear him. He just wanted to get his hands on the bastard who landed his mother in the hospital. He knew exactly where the abandoned warehouses were.

As Junsu pulled up at the only lighted warehouse, he missed another black vehicle leaving the premises.

“Kim Kang-In, you fucking bastard! Show yourself!”

Junsu stormed in and shouted as he was stopped by a number of other men.

“Which one of you is Kim Kang-In? You fucking asshole… What did my mother ever do to you!”

Junsu shouted like a mad man but he did not really care. The men surrounding him kept peering towards one corner of the warehouse. Junsu followed their gaze and saw a figure seated comfortably on a couch.

“Kim Kang-In!”

Junsu stormed towards the figure on the couch, but only to be followed and stopped by the men surrounding him. He tried to push his way through but there were just too many of them.

“Who do we have here?”

A sickening voice sounded in the warehouse.

“You must be Kim Junsu… How’s your mother? I hope my men were not too hard on her…”

“You fucking bastard!”

Junsu lashed out and once again tried to reach out for Kim Kang-In but only to be stopped and dragged back by his men. In his anger, Junsu started throwing punches and kicks at Kang-In’s men. Soon, Junsu was practically in a brawl.

Junsu sent punch after punch into the people getting in his way to Kim Kang-In. Even though he could feel punches and kicks on him too, he was too furious to care. He only wanted one thing at that time - to tear Kim Kang-In to pieces.

“ARGH!”

Junsu cried out as he pushed past the men standing between him and Kang-In. His push caught them off guards and they fell. Junsu took this chance to lunge at Kang-In but he eventually stopped dead in his tracks.

Kim Kang-In had taken out his revolver and was pointing the nozzle at Junsu’s face.

“Very good Mr Kim Junsu… you may be a good fighter… but I don’t think your punches can save you from bullets, unfortunately…”

Junsu was panting from his fighting and from his anger as his shoulders moved up and down violently, his shirt and face wet from perspiration. He was glaring angrily at Kim Kang-In, even though he was at the losing end now.

“You have guts to barge in here on your own. I do not know how you found me… but I really wonder what you had in mind coming here all by yourself… To kill me? To confront me? And then what?”

Junsu was still breathing heavily as he turned his face away from the nozzle of the gun that Kang-In tapped on his face.

“You are making things too easy for me Mr Kim… I could just finish you here and all my problems would be solved… ”

“I swear I will tear you son of a bitch to pieces before you realise what is happening!”

Kang-In laughed loudly at that.

“You talk really big for a small person like yourself… look around you, Kim Junsu… I have the gun… I have the men… you have NOTHING… and after I kill you… I would have EVERYTHING… You even save me the trouble of finding you or staging another accident… how can I thank you…”

“If you had the fucking guts, you would have pulled the trigger… no matter what plans you have for Kim Enterprises, you know the power is in my hands… you can do nothing to me…”

Junsu rebutted smugly, as he continued to stare into the other’s face with a look that can kill.

Kim Kang-In’s eyes faltered a little as he realised Junsu was not as mindless as he thought he was. But he had a big ego and Junsu only served to infuriate him more.

“I may not be able to kill you… but that does not mean I cannot hurt you… And trust me… I have my ways to gain power over Kim Enterprises… and when that happens… I WILL kill you… For now, we would just have to make do with… let’s see… how about a broken arm to begin with?”

Kang-In ended with a sinister laugh that made Junsu sick.

Since his contact with Kim Kang-In, Junsu had to admit to himself that he felt a little fear in him as he took in the crazy look that appeared in the other man’s eyes.

Kang-In ordered his men to tie Junsu up. The small man struggled and nearly broke free but basic instinct stopped him from struggling every time Kang-In raised the revolver to his face.

“Let go of me you crazy asshole!”

Junsu shouted as he felt his hands being tied up behind him, his heart beating faster at the thought of what the other man might do to him. He could feel adrenaline rushing through him. He knew he had to break free and he did not even dared think what might happen if he did not.

Kim Kang-In merely walked closer with the revolver turning in his hand.

“Afraid now, are we? You may have guts, Kim Junsu… but you underestimated my madness… I am capable of doing anything… And it’s too late for you to regret now…”

At that moment, Junsu heard a phone ringing. Kang-In broke his gaze and reached into his pocket to fish out his phone. He looked once at the number and smirked to himself. He then turned to smile at Junsu.

“This could be your saving grace… or my lucky day…”

Kang-In flipped open his phone and spoke into it.

“What can I do for you?”

“Yes… he is right here with me… all tied up… with a gun to his face. He sent himself here… I would love to take this opportunity to remove this obstacle, don’t you agree?”

Junsu furrowed his brows at who Kang-In might be speaking to. The person on the other line seemed to know Junsu. Could it be the person secretly working for Kang-In?

“Don’t you use that tone on me… you know what I am capable of!”

Kang-In’s sudden change in tone startled Junsu out of his thoughts. It seems the person talking on the other line was not making Kang-In very pleased. Junsu wondered if that was good for him, considering he was now at his mercy.

“Don’t you dare threaten me! Kim Junsu is now in my hands, you had better not try anything funny!”

Junsu was feeling more and more uneasy about the direction of the men’s conversation as Kang-In’s face grew more furious. He decided he really had to get the hell out of the situation.

His chance came when Kang-In turned and walked away from him as he continued to shout into the phone. This distracted the men who were guarding Junsu. The smaller man knew it was now or never.

“Argh!”

Junsu gave a hard shove at the men holding him, while sending out kicks to the others reacting to his struggle. He turned around quickly and found a gap to escape. He took his feet quickly, glad for all the gym sessions he made himself go so that he could run for his life now.

“Get him back here!”

Junsu could hear Kang-In’s voice and that made him turn back. The moment he did, he regretted his decision.

Kang-In was pointing the revolver in his direction and Junsu thought he saw a blare of light from the weapon.

“JUNSU!”

What happened next was a blur to Junsu as he heard the gunshot, but at the same time, felt someone push him. He crashed to the ground and felt a weight fall on him. A few more gunshots rang out and he could feel himself being dragged to his feet and pushed from behind.

“Over there!”

He heard the voice again and could recognise it now. But he had no time to think about how happy he was to hear that voice again or how the owner of the voice found him. He only had time to run for their lives.

They had run out of the warehouse to the area behind it where there were many shipping containers. The two men ran quickly to hide between the containers before Kang-In and his men caught up with them.

As they hid, both men were breathing heavily. Junsu finally had a chance to take a good look at his savior.

“Thanks… Yoochun.”

Park Yoochun leaned his head back on the container before he heard Junsu speak. He then reached over wordlessly to untie the rope bounding Junsu’s hands together. As he leaned back on the container again, Junsu saw Yoochun wince in pain as he held his left shoulder.

“Are you hurt?”

Junsu knew his question was redundant as he caught sight of the thick red liquid smeared on the container where Yoochun’s shoulder had grazed earlier. The other man’s face seemed to have lost some colour as he leaned forward to ease the pain.

A loud gunshot alerted the two men that Yoochun’s injury was not the priority at the moment. Yoochun quickly turned to signal to Junsu to keep very quiet.

“Park Yoochun! Was that you?! I don’t believe this… four years ago I thought I had gotten rid of you… I would have… if not for your stupid brother who got in the way… Now four years later and you are still a pain in my ass! You could not save your brother four years ago, you cannot save Kim Junsu today!”

Junsu could tell that whatever colour that was left on the other man’s face was gone at the mention of his brother. Yoochun shut his eyes to will himself to stay focused. Kim Kang-In will not and cannot make him lose his mind again. He could feel his breathing getting faster and Junsu could see it too.

Suddenly, Yoochun felt a touch on his bloodied hand. He opened his eyes and turned to the man beside him. Junsu merely gave a knowing nod. Only the two men understood each other at that moment. Yoochun gave a small nod back as he encircled his own fingers around Junsu’s hands for a short moment before letting go.

He took a deep breath and peered out slightly to see where Kim Kang-In and his men were. He realised Kim Kang-In’s men were already walking around the area, searching for them. Kim Kang-In was doing his own searching as well.

Yoochun signaled to Junsu that they needed to move and asked Junsu to follow him. Both men were crouching low as they moved from one container to the next to hide from the men.

“Your old man misses you, Yoochun…”

Yoochun froze in his tracks when he heard that, causing Junsu to bump into him from behind. At that moment, one of Kang-In’s men saw them. Junsu saw that they were discovered and quickly pulled Yoochun out of the way to run in the other direction. He quickly pushed Yoochun into a small space between a container and a wall. Junsu peered out and saw the man run in another direction. He heaved a sigh of relief. It was only then that he realised how close he was standing against Yoochun in the small space. He looked up and saw that their faces were only inches from each other.

Yoochun broke out of his trance when he saw how close he was looking into Junsu’s eyes. Both men looked away for a while before they caught each other’s gaze again. Both Yoochun and Junsu swallowed nervously at their situation.

“Don’t you want to know where your old man is, Park Yoochun? As resourceful as you are, I believe you would have known by now that he is missing right? Well, guess what? I know exactly where he is…”

Ironically, both men were relieved to hear Kang-In’s voice as it broke all the forbidden thoughts they know they were not supposed to have at that moment. Especially Yoochun, who visibly tensed at the mention of his father.

Junsu could feel Yoochun trembling and he knew that if Kang-In continued taunting him, Yoochun might lose his mind.

“Let me make you a deal. If you surrender Junsu now, I will tell you where your father is.”

Yoochun opened his eyes wide and looked at Junsu. Junsu did not know what reaction to give to the other man.

“If you refuse… I will make the call now to KILL your father. What will it be hotshot? Kim Junsu or your father?”

Tears of rage and desperation were reflected in Yoochun’s eyes as the taller man took in huge breaths and was biting on his lower lip nervously. He could not let Kang-In have Junsu. The bastard would either kill Junsu or use Junsu to get what he wanted. He could not even be sure if Kang-In was speaking the truth.

Yet, what if he was? What if his father was indeed kept captive by Kang-In? Was Yoochun willing to take the chance?

Junsu knew exactly what was going through the other’s mind. Both of them could not be sure if Kang-In was speaking the truth, but it was too big a chance for them to take. If he was speaking the truth, then they would be making a gamble on Yoochun’s father’s life. Junsu could not have that on his conscience his whole life. Junsu would not be able to live, knowing that Yoochun sacrificed his father for his own life. He knew Yoochun would most definitely lose his mind if that happened.

“Come on, Park Yoochun, the clock is ticking… I am not going to wait forever for your answer. I’m making the call now as I speak. You have 10 seconds to respond. 10… 9… 8…”

Yoochun was nearly gasping for air now as he looked to Junsu and away, not knowing how to decide. He did not even know he was holding onto Junsu as if for dear life. Junsu could feel the man trembling even more now and could almost feel the desperation in the other’s eyes. He knew he had to do something.

“3… 2…”

“Junsu, NO!”

Yoochun screamed out as he felt Junsu pulled his hands away and ran out to Kang-In.

“Stop it you fucking son-of-a-bitch! You want me? Here I am!”

“Junsu!”

Yoochun shouted again as he ran quickly to Junsu’s side. Kang-In’s men had gathered around them and were tying their hands up again to prevent them from escaping. Yoochun clenched his fists tightly as he realised he was looking at Kim Kang-In, the man who killed his only brother, in the face, for the first time in four years. The anger boiling inside the man was burning Yoochun. It was burning so fiercely that the man found it hard to breathe.

Kang-In gave yet another sickening laugh.

“Oh… look at the lovebirds… sacrificing yourselves for each other… I’m so touched!”

“Shut the fuck up!”

Yoochun yelled, not wanting to hear that voice at all.

“Be kind to me now, Park Yoochun, both your father’s and Junsu’s life are in my hands.”

Kang-In dropped his sarcastic face and replaced it with a stern one.

“You’ve got me now… let Yoochun go… let Mr Park go.”

“Don’t be stupid, Kim Junsu… you know that is not going to happen… Both of you have no negotiating power at all… and you know it… ”

“What exactly do you want then!”

Junsu asked, frustrated that they were just sitting ducks being manipulated.

“That is for me to do… and for you to find out… but I’m afraid you do not have much time left for that… I would have HAD to let you live longer, Kim Junsu, if you had not barged in on me today. Seems like I have to adjust my plans a little but it is with pleasure that I do so… You have no idea how much I would give to see you dead… you fortunate piece of crap…”

As Kang-in spoke, he had taken out his gun and was using the nozzle to trace the sides of Junsu’s face. As afraid as he was inside, Junsu still held his death glare at the other man, not able to understand what Kang-In had against him.

“NO! KIM KANG-IN! YOU FUCKING BASTARD… STOP!”

Yoochun was shouting at the top of his voice and struggling hard against the firm hold of the men. The image of Kang-In pointing the gun at Junsu’s face was too much for the man to bear. He could not watch another person he loved die at that monster’s hands.

“Shut up, Park Yoochun. You will get your turn. You should have gotten your turn 4 years ago. As much as your old man doesn’t show it, he was ready to hand the organization down to you… and I could not have that… I was the one who risked my life for him… for the organization… I was the one who bleed and fought in order to expand our organization and all you did was paperwork! He may not love you as much as he loved your brother, but he was prepared to hand matters down to you… ignoring all the things I did! And I have to work under you! That was NOT going to happen. I will get what I deserve and you are not going to get in my way.”

“Fine… the feud is with me… Let Junsu go… He has nothing to do with all this…”

“No! Let Yoochun go… Your business is with Kim Enterprises… Let him go…”

“Shut up, Junsu… you don’t know what you’re doing!”

“Don’t ask me to shut up… and I know exactly what I am doing!”

“NO, YOU DON”T! Now shut the fuck up!”

“STOP asking me to SHUT UP!”

“BOTH OF YOU SHUT THE FUCK UP!”

Kim Kang-In yelled irritably.

“Don’t disgust me with your gay love… Kim Junsu has everything to do with this… This time, it’s about him and not you Park Yoochun… don’t flatter yourself… but since both of you presented yourselves to me and are dying to die in each other’s place… It’s an opportunity not to be missed…”

Kim Kang-In raised his revolver and pointed it at Junsu.

“You’ll both get your turns… And Kim Junsu shall go first….”

“NO!”

Yoochun shouted as he struggled fiercely against the men’s hold. Junsu was still eyeing Kang-In with a stubborn face but fear was evident in his eyes.

Kang-In cocked the gun.

“Kang-In STOP! NOOO!”

Yoochun was still struggling and shouting at the top of his voice. He could not let Kim Kang-In kill Junsu. He had to stop it. He had to.

As Yoochun finally broke free and pushed Junsu out of the way of the revolver, a loud gunshot rang out in both men’s ears.
