I had always thought the same thing.. until I learned that the comment about the Cetra having come and named the planet was a mistranslation. ^_^* Now I just assume that this is what Jenova does: wander from planet to planet, eradicating sentient species, and looking for the ideal one to make into its own world----just like Sephiroth spouts about.
I mean, some of the things that Seph does near the Northern Crater are the same kinds of things that it's described as Jenova doing to the ancients: appearing in the form of people they care about, making illusions, and driving anyone infected to be more aggressive and start killing each other... Jenova could just be a parasite.

Actually, while it hasn't be blatantly stated, it has been established that the Cetra are desended from the Spirans of FFX. For example, Cid's Shera runs on an "ancient energy source" and both Rin and Shinra (*hint, hint*) in X:2 contemplated if it was possible to convert the energy of the Farplane into a usable energy source.

However, I don't think they had come into connact with a being like Jenova previously. As far as Iflana's version of the story goes, they seemed genuinely surprised at Jenova and her attempts for assimiliation. (Disguising herself as dead relatives.) Plus since she started mutating things, it kinda got the Planet mad which is why it made the WEAPONs....

I have some good theories on that, but now that I think of it, I don't have any real evidence or remember where I found this information. So I can't really back up what I'm going to say, but this is my impression reguardless.

"Jenova arrived to the planet, and eventually took the form of a female human. As 'she' interacted with the Certa, she infected them with her cells. The Certa who became infected eventually became mad and even mutated to creatures, which bred and multiplied to the monsters in the world that we see in random encounters today."

You, know... perhaps it would be more helpful to get a better theory and thought if Jenova actually, oh well I dunno........ moved around and said something instead of others referring to her as 'mother' and them telling everyone her intentions. Who knows, maybe Sehpiroth or Kadaj misinterpreted somewhere or somehow?

I wanna hear her say something about it. Know what I mean?

Hi there. Thanks for posting. This is a wonderful theory you have here. But there are some parts I'll have to disagree on.

Ok so I agree that there is a possibility that the Cetra and Jenova could have indeed met before. But the Cetra never traveled from planet to planet, they traveled the planet. Although I have a new idea that still supports your idea. Perhaps Jenova arrived at the planet before (meaning the arrival which caused the Northern Crater was Jenova's return) and was defeated by the Cetra and retreated. Then sometime later, she came back on a much bigger meteor and is more powerful then before, hence why she killed the Cetra so quickly. I think it somewhat adds up. :)

Thanks again for posting.
