EDGE Previews Final Fantasy XII

This months EDGE magazine has a fairly decent preview of Final Fantasy XII. EDGE is the most intelligent video game magazine on the market geared more towards adult gamers than the horribly written reviews of other game magazines that tend to concentrate on kids. I've typed up the review for your consumption, breaking every copyright law in the ( Read more... )

I love that silence to kill idea that is so clever, not to mention the name as well. I fail to understand why many people hated the Sphere Grid on FFX, it was so awesome. That grid saved you all the trouble from going to the shop and buy magic for outrageous prices, or going out and look for a powerful monster to get it. Instead, the magic was there with you the whole time, all you needed to do was train up a bit and move around the board, I loved it. :)

Other then that this game sounds pretty cool, so much detail now, it's unreal.

I can't say I was the biggest fan of the Sphere Grid. Don't get me wrong, it was a novel idea, it was just a little frustrating. You had to plan far ahead in some cases and it was annoying when you realised you missed something along the way and had no rare teleport spheres. I never exactly knew where I was without the whole exp and level thing to back me up, I miss that common RPG formula.

I'm kinda liking the new idea though, with the adjacent thing, but I think the best system ever used was the materia system in FFVII, nothing will ever beat that in my opinion.

You can really tell they're taking a lot of the MMO feel from FFXI though, it's almost as if they're trying to clone it for the single player market, possibly trying to make it up to the fans by offering a single player experience under the same vein as the MMO one.

That was a major catch for the Sphere Grid, indeed. I probably loved it so much because I am in love with board games, and it allowed you to go wild when it came to customizing your players. I mean there no limits; I mean my Yuna has some good attack power because I let her go through Auron and Wakka's area, lol.

The materia system was the best, I loved the "all" materia, it was a big help. :)
