Working in the bakery was surprisingly fun, given that it was supposed to be work and all. Al was almost disappointed that it was almost temporary work, whilst the usual staff members were on holiday over Christmas. Still, it was money, the owner was not only very kind, but more than happy to overlook Al’s age, and he got any leftovers or spoiled batches to take home, which he was certain his big brother was more than pleased about. He looked up at hearing someone enter the warm bakery, smiling brightly at them from over the counter.
“Hi! Can I help you?” he asked them with a sweet smile, glancing down momentarily to adjust the apron strings around his waist; being so worn and thin, they had a habit of untying themselves at the most inappropriate times. He blinked as he looked up to the man standing before him, hiding a smile at seeing the various splotches of paint on the man’s person.
Kurogane didn't expect such a youngster to be standing behind the counter. Strangely, he was reminded of the Cat's Eye Cafe where Sakura used to work with Fai. He wondered how many people had thought that strange as well. Though, he disregarded the thought and glanced at the menu again.
"Do you have anything that isn't drowning in sugar or syrup?" He asked, his eyebrow twitching slightly. He then glanced at the other and realized that the look on his face was amused. He cocked an eyebrow and looked at his reflection on one of the window cases.
He guessed it was amusing to see him covered in paint. He hadn't done a good job of hiding what he had been doing did he? Not that he needed to hide it or anything. "I want a sandwich." He said, turning his eyes from his reflection to the others face. "Whatever you think is the best one you have."
Al’s face lit up at actually being asked for his opinion on what would be best to have, nodding his head to the dark haired man eagerly. “We’ve got a Christmas Special still going if you want to try that. It’s turkey, cranberries and stuffing, and it’s really nice. We’re only doing them until the New Year, so this is the time to get them.” It had taken him a while to get the concept of putting turkey, cranberries and stuffing together in a sandwich, somewhat bemused to learn that it was considered a traditional lunch for Christmas day.
“It’s a little sweet, but it’s not overly sugary,“ the blond added after some thought, “The turkey and the stuffing balances it out. Also, you can get a drink with it, that’s a hot one, or a cold one.” He seemed fairly proud that he knew the spiel already, despite only having been there for just under a week.
Kurogane had asked for the kids opinion, even if the sandwich sounded rather disgusting. Who the hell puts turkey, cranberries, and stuffing together? He though to himself. If you want Christmas dinner so bad then you should just go out and get it.
"Yeah, I'll have that and some of the apple stuff." He wasn't accustomed to this place yet, and most of the items of food or clothes that were offered to him he could not place familiarity with the names. He grew up traditionally Japanese, so he understood traditional Japanese.
Didn't mean he wouldn't try anything different. Not that he had much of a choice.
"Cider." He barked out once he remembered what it was called. "Apple cider." He never understood how that had become a Christmas drink, but he wasn't about to complain. It tasted bitter enough for him to handle and it wasn't too sweet for his rather bland (or salty) preferring tastes.
