I had a "genius" moment a few minutes ago. I was thinking about my *incredibly* inefficient windows that have *huge* gaps because of the way they had to put in the A/C unit (the windows are old slat windows and there's a huge gap between the old window and where they had to cut the bottom off to put the A/C in - then there's the storm window they ( Read more... )

Duct tape - yeah!! It's like the force - it has a light side & a dark side, and holds the universe together.

My old apartment in Urbana had a similar problem; AC unit was mounted below the window, flush with the ground. The gaps weren't huge but did serve as a bug door and also let cold wind cut right through in the winter. I covered it up with cardboard and sealed the whole mess with...yep, duct tape.

I'm a tad worried that when I have to pull off that tape I'm going to find giant dead spiders stuck on the other side.

Hopefully the tape works out for now, but I have to get some window wrap and that should work as well. The last few days, sitting on the couch has felt like sitting outside.

The trees are gorgeous around here and I wish I had a camera that wasn't my phone to take a picture and send it to you.

normal trees around here don't change color very well...green-yellow-brown. no pretty orange or red..

but hey, I have PALM TREES!!!!!

also, it hit 98 degrees twice last week. (kinda wonder what they'd consider "football weather" here...)

It went cold pretty fast around here, so the trees look nice. I remember a few years ago when they turned it was pretty much just yellow.

It's 44 degrees out right now, and I'm freezing in my apartment, as I haven't turned the heat on yet. If I can hold out til November, that's only another week. Still. Brr.
