Overall, I found this book to be a very enjoyable and smart read. It's certainly comic-book-feminist friendly and probably enjoyable for any comic book geek.  Of course, most comic book geeks will know most of this stuff, but I actually found out quite a few things I didn't know, specifically about golden age heroes and such.

He didn't really elaborate, sadly, or compare and contrast them. It goes over how Shulkie's sexuality was a joke in Byrne's run, but "not all writers are as deft at handling her healthy approach to her sex life" and goes over her sleeping with Juggernaut and Wolverine not being interested in "Juggernaut's sloppy seconds" and goes over Slott's slut shaming trial, and then points out it's a double standard.

As for Huntress, he doesn't say much, he just references that time she slept with Nightwing and he's awkward about it, but she sys "there's no us, it was just feeling lonely etc" and he says her views on sex are refreshing in a medium where only bad woman have sexual appetites, but then points out she's branded a slut and a whore on message boards.

Thank you for reviewing this book. I was very curious to know how much of Supergirl's history was covered. Too bad that Matrix and Linda Danvers was barely mentioned because they were an important part of Supergirl's 50 year history. When I put together the Supergirl display for my library, I discovered that aside from the comics themselves and the internet, there wasn't a lot written about Supergirl's history. So I am glad that more books like this one are being published.

This was a great review, btw! I'm gonna read this eventually.

I too think that at some point there needs to be something substantial written about female readership and fandom and whatnot.
