Super Mega Batgirl Review!

Because you demanded it! No, actually you didn't, but my homework's done, and I must review this Steph-ish peice of comic.

But first, a public service anouncement: I've been thinking about this for a while...and I'm still very sad about Cassandra. But the truth is, nobody's written her well, and for so many years, that maybe she does deserve a ( Read more... )

Just a drive by buuut, we've heard from the writer Cass is coming back and is hanging with Steph while Babs in Stephs-Mentor role while Leslie-Mentor is for Wendy. That and the Boys Are Stupid preview was what made me go "Omg, it's STEPH"

Personally, I loved it. The good far outweighed the bad, and I kind of saw a little meta in Cass essentially saying "fuck this shit". I hope she's back things, because I have a good feeling about this writer. Even if his TT arc does suck, but then, I don't think anyone could do a good job with the mess that is TT at the moment.

I'm actually betting Steph is probably around 19 right now, if she's a year older than Tim. Because Tim's, like, got to be 18 right now. Otherwise Red Robin makes even less sense. XD

I'm optimistic. I was expecting this series to disgust me, honestly, but I liked just about everything.

Total motto on the "Boys are STUPID" line. I could see how that would be bullshit coming from Helena or Babs or someone who has had a male in her life who made it better, not worse.

Also

Her uncle was also a criminal and hit on her.

EWWW. Really?

The more I read it, the more I like it, except ...

Nick Gage

I'm worried about him. First issue shows us this uber-competent new cop that James Gordon wants to hook up with Babs. BABS. This cannot end well.

Really. It was in a backup story for Batman Chronicles, I think. I posted it here:

And I've (jokingly) thought bqm might be stalking my wiki, since he seems to be the only writer ever to acknowledge Dixon meant Steph to by older than Tim! Even Jon Lewis seemed to think Tim and Steph are the same age. I seem to be the only one who's ever noticed. But bqm did too! I'm really glad, it pleases my not-so-inner Steph-geek

If it's any comfort, BQM said that Babs is going to be less angsty. He's being like Gail Simone here when he needs to be like Geoff Johns or John Byrne and holy cow did I just type that sentence when talking about Babs?. Ignore the crap, BQM! Ignore the crap!

Although I'm confused about her subway takedown. What were those guys even doing?

I never even thought of that. To me, I just thought they were walking down the hall.

Yeah, I do give the artist credit for having talent and for not being exploitative. Also, he drew Cass' upper arms as quite muscled, just as I'd expect them to be, which is a nice touch. I just wonder if there's some sort of communications breakdown between the writer and artist, since the art doesn't seem to line up with what's happening.
