You know you've got it bad when you practically spend all day crying, from things like nerves about going to college, to your mom being hovering and nitpicky about your socks of all things, to how you hate driving and are never going to get a license, to a production of fucking Taming of the Shrew.

don't be sad! My mother did the same thing to me my first year at college...I found the best thing to do was just take a breath, step back && let her be anal about whatever she wanted...
I've read Shrew a few times, && I've always just assumed the ending speech was meant to be kind of ironic... I know that there's many interpretations and arguments over the fact...but it makes me feel better to view it that wayy especially since it's been adapted often in pop culture...I would just like to believe that society embraces it over the humor...=/

(ps- im 20 && still don't have a license...yay public trans!)

I'm sorry you had such a crappy time. I've never actually read or watched the Taming of the Shrew. I think I remember somebody saying that the movie 10 Things I Hate About You was loosely based on that play, except that IIRC 10 Things doesn't really have misogyny. It's a pretty funny movie too.
