I've read Shrew a few times, && I've always just assumed the ending speech was meant to be kind of ironic... I know that there's many interpretations and arguments over the fact...but it makes me feel better to view it that wayy especially since it's been adapted often in pop culture...I would just like to believe that society embraces it over the humor...=/

I'm sorry you had such a crappy time. I've never actually read or watched the Taming of the Shrew. I think I remember somebody saying that the movie 10 Things I Hate About You was loosely based on that play, except that IIRC 10 Things doesn't really have misogyny. It's a pretty funny movie too.
