The LOTR movies have outstandingly bad special effects and acting. And the books are poorly-paced and laughably scripted, in addition to being unabashed ripoffs of Norse mythology.
YES! Visual schizophrenia! "Too many notes," to quote Mozart's nemesis. So many movies these days are over-produced in terms of art direction, and LOTR is by far the worst offender.
I just don't understand WHY people deify these films. Read some fucking Shakespeare, pick up "The Hero with a Thousand Faces," delve into Jung. Tolkien did not invent archetypes dammit.
It is to my unceasing horror that "Return of the King" won Best Picture last year. Further proof that Americans have absolutely no fucking taste, as if "Shakespeare in Love" beating "Elizabeth" for the same award a few years ago.
The movies are absolute crap. Anyone who says otherwise is either a hopeless, bearded fanboy or completely lacking in taste.
Well the inability to grow facial hair means I must lack in taste as i thought they were okay movies that were entertaining for a few hours, which is all they were supposed to be right?
I guess if you are seeking something really original it would have to be James Bond?
