And a man who looked like Desmond Descant but who was not has told me that Desmond Descant is missing - and we were -

We were trying to find you. In the rubble ... the destruction of the Conrad ...

I'm fine.

Those who are left are at the Kashtta Tower now.

Medusa waits outside on a street corner, a little ways away from where the Conrad once stood. She trusts that Martha will see her. The only thing she has, again, are the clothes on her back and the journal in her hand.

She wonders who was lost. She wonders which homes now no longer have occupants. She wonders if Martha is truly all right and whether she should press the issue. If Desmond Descant is all right.

And the time - how much time has gone by since she left here? How many times must she wake to find a new world? She would never complain about the second chances - she embraces them with relish.

A little warning, however. That might be nice.

Her stomach clenches as she waits, with some kind of nervousness she does not quite recognize. It must be the nervousness of starting over. Medusa snarls slightly to herself and balls up her fists. She will not "go soft". Whatever this is, she will will it away.
