First thing: I have been trying to do a personal tumblr again. I'm not sure if I'll stick with it, but I do enjoy looking at pictures. If we haven't connected on there yet, let me know your tumblr (mine is just neveralarch).

Second thing: I have been consuming media this summer! It's nice.

Still watching FMA! It is good, and keeps subverting my ( Read more... )

Glad to hear your media consumption is so joyful!:)
Matthew Swift has been on my read-list for a while, but so far the reviews I'm hearing from my friends irl and on lj are all in favour - good to know!
And oh, I've started on Gokusen - saw the first season of live-action (it's funny in a dorky way), but then switched to manga which ended up being so much better! It's incredible how much things get softened up for anime/liveaction adaptations...
PS. and izumisays is me on tumblr, if you're wondering who added you:)

Oh man, definitely check out Matthew Swift if you get a chance! I think it's my favorite of the urban/modern magic series that keep showing up. And I'm really glad you're reading Gokusen! I like the manga a lot more than any of the adaptions - which are both good in their own way, but not as awesome as the manga. Especially since the manga has a really fun art style that the live-action series obviously can't capture.

I added you back on tumblr :) Thanks for letting me know!

I will, too, just waiting for urban fantasy mood to strike:)

Manga indeed has that hilarious combination of kickassity, dorkiness and coolness. I didn't expect to like either Kumiko or Shin as much as I do, actually. Did you enjoy his crush?:) Also, how completely clueless Kumiko is, and that she totally isn't impressed with anything (except fundoshi:P)

Thanks!:)

I definitely wasn't expecting to like Shin or Kumiko/Shin that much - usually I don't like teacher/student romances at all. But the way Shin's crush is treated is so different from most manga, I started rooting for him despite myself :)

Kumiko's thing for fundoshi was so great, haha.

Lion in Winter has been on my to-watch classics list for ages, I'm glad to hear it's not only classic but enjoyable!

Gah, I need to get back to Matthew Swift - I've read through Midnight Mayor, and I know once I start I won't be able to stop and I'll blow through the rest way too fast. The writing is so good >.

I don't think I would have watched Lion in Winter without prompting, but I liked it a lot, haha. And I hope you do get back to Matthew Swift - I'm enjoying the books a lot. I would be reading them faster except that I keep having to wait for the next book to come in the mail.

Ooh, are you watching the original FMA anime? If you know how the story goes - did you watch Brotherhood or read the manga?

I'm watching the original right now, though I'm planning to go on to Brotherhood later. I read the manga back in September or so, and was kind of awed by it. (My brother has watched Brotherhood but hasn't read the manga - I keep telling him he's missing out.)

Awesome! The first FMA series was one of the first anime I watched, years and years ago, before the manga was finished. But I absolutely love the manga as well, and Brotherhood, and pretty much everything in that universe.!

FMA fanart was what first drew me into fandom, back in 2008 (and then I spent two years lurking, but I still pin the blame on FMA fanart). It's kind of weird that it's taken me this long to actually check out the canon, but I guess it's better late than never :)
