Aha, I have chilled out since when I posted this and made a firm resolution not to read any more Hannibal fics. It doesn't matter for me if there's actually cannibalism in the fic - just knowing that that's the premise of the show makes me uncomfortable. It is the same way that I pretty much cannot read anything that zombies are in at all, even if they are not a threat and not actually eating people during a given story or whatever. I do not trust Hannibal. He is probably thinking vaguely of eating people all the time.
(Basically there were a couple of fics with really really awesome D/s with Hannibal manipulating and caring for Will. Caregiving Doms - huge button for me. But even though there weren't any explicit references to cannibalism, I still couldn't really deal, haha. For whatever reason that particular squick is really sensitive.)
ANYWAY, I do appreciate the offer and I'm glad you're having a good time with the Hannibal fandom :) It does seem like a cool show!
OH MY GOD SOMEONE ELSE I CAN TALK TO ABOUT HOW MUCH I WANT TO FLIP TABLES OVER WITH THIS SHOW/FANDOM.
AGH I DON'T EVEN KNOW. See, the thing is, I've watched the episodes, and I can tell it's really well written, incredibly well acted, and complex...but at the same time I just can't bring myself to actually like it??? For me, the squick is not even the eating people (well, that is rather squicky actually), but it's just...there's so much really creepy, disturbing, grotesque imagery in there I just can't handle, and I feel like I'm suffocating under the heavy, dark atmosphere of everything and everyone. I NEED SOME LIGHTNESS but there is no lightness. There is no lightness. There is only spirals of death.
I'm much too afraid to go near the fics at all (and I'm not really...seeing the slash, personally), but instead I sneak myself into finding the derpy fanarts because I secretly wish the show were more derpy that way even though I know it would destroy the integrity of the show if it were.
Aha, aw. There have def been shows like that for me - I was really liking the new House of Cards, but then the darkness and foreboding got to me and I just kind of... lost interest. Or the willpower to go on. The only shows that I'm actually keeping up with nowadays are Community, Parks & Rec, and Elementary - not the stuff of grim tales or grotesqueness, really.
I've been watching the fandom from the outskirts thinking 'Iiii want to playyy,' but knowing it's a bad idea. But the adorable fanart! The .gifs of Hannibal making jokes about eating people and then thinking about how clever he is! Actually I would still not be able to handle the show if it was a comedy about eating people, but it would be kind of hilarious if that actually existed!
SO YES, come to my arms, we will bond and flip tables and look wistfully into the distance, idk.

I haven't seen the new House of Cards, but I have seen (most of) the old one from the 90s and I loved it--up to a point. Basically, the last season didn't really catch my attention all that much, but the first couple of seasons were pretty epic.
Oh Community! I wish I could see more of Community--the few episodes I've seen I've really liked; I just haven't gotten around to seeing the rest of it yet (or finding where to watch it).

I'm now picturing us in the Sherwood Forest of Fandom, living the life of a merry band of outlaws, occasionally pilfering the fanarts/fanfics of the fandoms we're not a part of and then flipping tables and causing general furniture-related inconveniences.
lol where did that come from I guess it can join my 'Fandoms as a Medieval Society' AU
Ahaha, I tried the original House of Cards and made it through most of a season before the daddy!kink became too much. I had to screen the new House of Cards through my brother to make sure it wasn't going to get to me in the same way. (Verdict - a couple scenes I might have to skip, but I lost interest before I got to that episode anyway.)
I really liked the conceit/storytelling of both of the House of Cards, though. I was kind of startled and impressed every time they seamlessly broke the fourth wall.
OMG, we can be a merry band. Stage raids on Highlander fic and take our reaction gifs from Supernatural. Hide in the forests of Homestuck and rob the Les Mis fans when they try to pass through.
(I'm just naming popular fandoms that I'm not really part of, idek where I'm going with this.)
