ANYWAY, I saw Iron Man 3 today and it was totally rad.

lots of spoilers under the cut, this is an especially good spoiler-free movie so be careful with this cut ok )

Yes. To everything! I just talked for 8000 words about this on my journal, but quickly:

Better without spoilers!

The Mandarin as a comment on both real life and the genre!

Needs more Rhodey, needs more Pepper, definitely needs less damseling, but eeeeeeee! Rhodey! Pepper! Especially Pepper throwing Tony aside at the end (damseling him).

As someone who doesn't like action sequences, I loved all the action sequences. They just kept doing new things and upping the stakes.

And the PTSD!

Also, thank you for your guess about why they used "I'm Blue"--I thought it was a hilarious choice, but we were trying to figure out why they chose that. I suppose it is emblematic of an era.

I too thought this was better than The Avengers. It's not a fair comparison, because this movie gets to do what IM2 should have done, but that a movie like The Avengers can't do. The Avengers has the burden of introducing a bunch of different main characters and getting them all hooked up. In IM2 and 3, all the main characters except the villains are ( ... )

Aha, I saw your reaction right after I posted mine. We are opinions twins!

I'm Blue is a really weird and silly song, and I thought it fit the movie surprisingly well - very tempted to make a fanvid, maybe after the semester ends... But yeah, it's a 1999 Europop song, it's the perfect fit for a y2k party in Switzerland.

I liked IM2 a lot, but I agree with you that it did nowhere near as much with the character development as IM3. I just feel like I know everyone so much better after this! And it did an excellent job at reconnecting with themes from the first movie, really made it feel like a narrative arc.

ALSO BRUCE. I'm so glad he was in that last scene, I needed my Ruffalo dose.

Ahhhh fanvid, DO IT.

...I think you're the first person I've met who liked IM2. Interesting! I do love the Tony/Pepper in it.

I know IM2 is the weakest movie, but I am fond of it. Mostly because of Rhodey as War Machine and how much I like the Vanko + Hammer villain disjunction. I feel like most people aren't happy with IM2 because it's got some weird character development, and I am an atypical fan here in that I usually care more about ridiculous fight scenes and Mickey Rourke with ridiculous hair than I care about Tony's feelings etc. More people getting attacked with electric whips and less emotions, I say.

(I would not actually say that.)
