Drace has often thought of death, but very little has her mind ever wandered to what waits after it. She never held any belief that she would live until she was old and gray, but neither did she ever believe that her end would come at the point of Gabranth's sword. That her Empire would turn into a nest of snakes, that it would strike down the Emperor and then herself, that Vayne would be the one to rule... It was a fear, yes, but not something she truly believed ( ... )

It's not long before Gabranth sees-hears-feels another presence near him, too near, too close to his back.

The white wings and glint of armor barely register to him as he slays the fiend before him and wheels around to follow through, aiming to strike whatever new foe this world would set upon him.

Instinct, skill, and years of training bring her sword up to block almost before Drace is even aware of the attack. The wings on her back flare wide on impulse, like the arching of a cat, making her seem larger and making her cape billow -- and it is then that she realizes that she knows this helm, this manner of fighting, though her guard does not drop.

"Have I been sent back to aid you in your time of need, Your Honor?"

He recognizes the other Judge almost as quickly, and that recognition makes him freeze.

"Your Honor?"

But this-how can this be? By his own example, it is surely no inconceivable feat for the dead to appear in this world, but for this woman to appear now, before him, in this manner... What could this mean?

Of course, it doesn't take him long to realize just what it could mean: surely he has died, or is surely on the verge of it, and this is the punishment sent unto him by the gods for his transgressions.

Of course.

He staggers back, and the weight of his realization brings him to his knees. "Your Honor," he repeats, voice hoarse with exhaustion and straining with disbelief. "Never had I thought this time would truly come."
