really? Actually, I'd always recommend to watch the series first. Even though the movie kinda works without it it gives a nice background. Especially on who these guys are (the office guy is a doctor, btw, lol).
I must say that I adore every single one of these characters, they're so unique, funny and... not perfect. lol

*laughs* at your icon!

I was wondering, when is the film set in terms of a timeline. Is it before Firely? Or in the middle, because, is "leaf on the wind" guy in the series even though he dies?

MWAHA, you must watch Firefly!! :) Hilarious - so much more funny than just the 2 hours they give you for Serenity. And if you get your hands on the dvd - watch the bloopers! :)

Also, depending on which order you watch the episodes in, it either does or doesn't coincide with the "normal" sequence of events. Either that or they throw in flashback type things into the episodes too (they do it quite a lot in the movie, if you hadn't noticed).

Yeah, and don't mind the silly movie people who made Wash die. He is NOT supposed to die!

And most importantly, watch it with a open mind... "I am a leaf on the wind". (Did you notice the dinosaurs on his console?? :D) And the characters are sweet in their own ways - not so much this way or that way, but lovable and unlovable. (Does that make sense?)

:) Anyways. enjoy!

Oooo, okay, Firefly is next on the agenda, when I get time!!

There were flashbacks in the movie? I remember only the ones with River at school but that's it. If there was more I'm completely lost. *laughs at self*

I'm glad Wash wasn't supposed to die, he was cool! And the lovable and unlovable makes a lot of sense, it's quite difficult to describe these kind of characters in Serenity/Firefly, because they are heroes and at the same time they don't seem like ones!

Those are the perfect heroes - the ones who are unlikely :). Or at least, they make good stories. If we had lots of Batmans and Supermans jumping around, you'd eventually want to poke them and say ":P, Stop being so hero-ish please, you're making my everyday-life look miserable". LOL.

Anyways... flashbacks? Oh, maybe those were the only ones. Well, and the Inara references which wouldn't make sense (in a complete sort) if you hadn't watch Firefly. And I don't know that it really gets into who Shepherd was when they are "hiding out" and visit him. When I first saw Serenity, I didn't realize he'd been a passenger on the ship - I thought he was just one of their connections (kind of like Mr. Universe).

It's easy to watch a series or a movie and not really think about what you're watching - watch it for the action or the drama or comedy or whatever else except the actual sequence-of-events and/or plotline. Thinking back, I'm still confused over some of the episodes, because half of the episode was focused on Simon and River ( ... )

not really think about what you're watching
That's what I was doing for Serenity, I found a level that I could connect to it and what made sense to me and stuck with that. Thus, I enjoyed the movie for its comedy, and it was hilarious.

lol, You watched the episodes in the wrong order? How did you manage that? It must be on the internet somewhere about what order they were shown in, maybe on the DVD cover.

I love it how you described Mal, I like characters who are doubled sided. Just because you never know what to think of them or rather how to perceive them in the long run. For example, the first time I read Lord of the Rings I wasn't quite sure how to think of Gollum/Smeagol.

It seems like there is a big wide universe in this movie...I better go watch the series in one go, in one day! Thanks for your insight into these things, it is always much appreciated :)

Serenity is a lot like Firefly - always good for the dialogue. They're both humorous and emotional and have vaguely decent plots.

Mal in Serenity takes a turn for the darker, so he's not conventional hero, no. But I do love all Firefly's characters. It was a good show. There's somewhere you can dl it.. er.. if you want to, I might be able to dig it up.

And when do you propose that I watch it? Yeah, dig it up for the post-HSC holidays!

Did you like the Coleridge quote...........DID YOU?????!!!!!!! It was the best part because I realised that I knew stuff and it was funnyyy. If that makes sense. I know literary pieces! yay!! :)
