Screencap Adventure: Summon Night 2 (Part 4)

Jan 06, 2008 21:46

This one's a bit of a shortie, since I decided that it would be better to split this one up into two parts, as it would run too long as just one. Thus, another will show up...tomorrow? I hope so.

Previous Episodes

Woo, actual gameplay!

I'm afraid I've run out of axe references. And no, I'm not gonna do a Lord of the Rings joke. That is not my area of geekery.

I'm not particularly fond of axes, truth be told. They hit for huge damage, but they completely screw your Agility score. And I am a fan of jumping around like a big sword-wielding pixie, thank you very much. I keep an axe on hand for enemies that are strong against swords, though.

CHOP CHOP, SUCKA

...Tough Leather? I forget what that does.

Huh. It does...nothing. I guess it's one of those ingredients for Creating items.

Another treasure chest! :O
Who is leaving these things in the middle of fields?

:D

THREE SLIMES? Can Garrulon overcome such fearsome foes?

(Spoiler: Yes)

My axe has no effect on this grass! What could possibly solve this problem?

Oh, right. Sword. :B

Oh hey, there's another Rare Medal down there! I'll just walk down and...

GAH! Right when I was about to pick it up, too!

:D 33 to go.

No idea what Zasso Leaves do, either. More item-creating stuff, I think.

Oh hey, it's Okami! I loved your game, mi-

AAAAAAHHHH

Our first boss fight! :D The Hound is pretty easy; it jumps, bites, and occasionally lunges. Just keep hitting it and try to avoid its attacks, and you'll be fine.
...That's just basic boss strategy, isn't it? Durr, Aaron. GO TO BED.

DAMN this thing does some hardcore damage.

Oh, side note: you still take damage when Guarding, but it is MASSIVELY REDUCED.
(Five dollars! Five dollars! This price is never to be repeated! Five dollars!)

However, at the end, Garrulon emerges bruised and victorious.

New spell! WOOOOOOO

Hmmm. A sensible person would bolster that Defence score. We're already getting a two-point boost to the other two stats, anyway.

GARRULON SPITS ON BEING SENSIBLE

Now we can make that Spear, too.

Ah, yes. Enchant Flare is basically 'fire damage on weapon'. It's nice, but the only time it's really super-useful is when you're fighting something weak to fire. It REALLY amps up the damage you deal.
It's nice to wield a blade wreathed in flame sometimes, though. :3

WHILE WE'RE HERE, WE SHOULD PROBABLY TAKE A LOOK AT THOSE BITE WOUNDS. Probably didn't need that jugular, anyway.

Another teleporter! :O

THUNK

Now we can zip right back to the Entry Woods! Awesome.

Any idea where to start, Loki?

...Very reassuring.

Nothing here...

A noise comes from the back-room.

"No, seriously. Knock yourself out."

"Loki?"

"...Loki?"

"...Fiiiiiine, I'll go in."

SUBTLE NAME INSERTION THERE SUMMON NIGHT 2

bwahahaha

bwahahaha

NO REALLY: NICE WORK, SUMMON NIGHT 2. VERY SUBTLE.

Man, Garrulon is a master of the passive diss.

(This comes up again.)

So, the seal was also keeping in some sort of Rage Virus stuff as well? I've never bought the [Villian]'s EVIL POWER line. Just having some evil dude hanging around does NOT make plants attack you! >|

AH BLOO HOO HOO

Garr-u-lon the Craft-Knight,
Can he fix it?
Garr-u-lon the Craft-Knight,
YES HE CAN!

(...Wait, does anyone outside Australia get Bob the Builder? :B DURR)

Oh gawd, now he's saying it too...

I do like how the Summon Night 2 world, despite being pretty medieval, still uses words like 'awesome' regularly. :D

GABRIEL :D :D :D

Those two Stray Summons never say anything else. I think it's kinda cute. :3

Better rest up. Those wolf-bites need...a good night's sleep! DA NAA NAAAA

NERROOOOOOMMM

REOOOOOOOMMMMMMNNN

Awesome. :D

Oh, hey! 'Sup, Orin?

Uhm. What does that have to do with repairing swords, Orin?

And the promise of a Craftknight is...all together now!

Tougher than the strongest steel!

Very good! :D

One thing at a time, Garry. Let's go fix this sword first.

LET'S GET FREUDIAN UP IN HERE WOOOOO

Oh, right! If you make enough weapons, you go up a Craftknight rank! I think the clanking of your hammers sounds a bit meatier as you're getting close to a Rank Up, but otherwise...I dunno.

A very handy ability.

See, there it is. You'll use that a lot.

Spears also have that hefty Agility drop, but you get the speary advantage of being able to attack from quite a ways away. I rarely use them, but as previously detailed, I am not a defence man.

O-oh god. The symbolism. D:

THRUST THRUST THRUST THAT SPEAR

Aww. :3 dog.

Now we have a Spear, we can get the fruit from these trees! Just give it a good whack with your spear, and...

RESULT!

Item-creating things both, I think.

Ah, okay. That yellow ball thing before was a Spirit. :3 dog is called a Hopdog.

Garrulon: "Yeah yeah, whatevs."

...Mary Poppins?

A quick heal-up and off we go!

Next time: we explore the Forest Outskirts and find that Hononas!

In other news, I'm actually replaying Case 1-5 right now; have I mentioned that before? I have to say, it's still damn difficult, and is unique in that it's the only case where I actually LIKED the murderer. Gant seemed so jolly and amiable before I found out he was...well, evil. :(
And this was BEFORE I found out the whole Internet had a love affair with him. OH GANT, YOU CRAZY OLD BASTARD. WE LOVE YOUR ORANGE-CLAD BUTT SO.

woo it's really late woo

~ Aaron

(Oh, also! For those who don't watch FF_Press, this Kain cosplay made me glee. :B )
