There was even an NPC saying 'oh, six Pokemon can be hard to raise...some people just do three!'

I think this was actually the game's way of... rationalizing why every trainer you fight has 2-3 pokémon. Instead of six. Because THAT always bugged me. Why are you (and like the elite four and rival) the only ones with six pokémon? It's a weak explanation, but at least it's an attempt to explain dis.

OTHER THAN THAT

yeah Excalibur

Oh yeah, true point! I hadn't even considered that. If that's so, then it's a pretty neat detail...and confirms that everyone else in the world is just a giant pussy.

EXCALIBUR IS THE BEST IBUR.

I... haven't even come close to beating the game yet. I got Black on Sunday, when it came out (and I wasn't even going to because finances are low but I really needed something shiny and this served quite nicely), and I haven't had that much time to play it because LAWL COLLEGE I HAVE A MIDTERM THAT I'M NOT READY FOR TOMORROW AND I'M UBER BUSY but... I mostly agree with you from what I've played. I, personally, kind of appreciated getting a Pokemon to beat the first gym and all... especially since I chose the water type and we can't ever be allowed to actually find fire types until the game is at least half done because we can't have nice things... but I agree with you that the whole "SOME PEOPLE JUST RAISE 2-3 POKEMON! 8D" thing was just strange. And stupid.

Also, I kind of liked that the wild Pokemon were more leveled up. That's one of the things that always annoyed me about some of the older games- I didn't want to walk around in tall grass all day, I wanted to actually play and get somewhere!- and I appreciated that they did ( ... )

Ah yes, but. Fire types have been scientifically proven to be for losers.

Yeah, true! I'm just a bit leery about it, oldbie that I am...it straddles the fence between making the game more accessible and utterly dumbing it down for the kids. Nothing wrong with giving the young ones a challenge! This way, you can catch a Pokemon that's the ultimate weakness right outside the Gym town, take him in, and steamroll the whole place flat without raising it a single level beforehand. Not so great.

You. Me. Grass vs. Fire. Let's go.

I wouldn't entirely say that... I've still had to level up my Pokemon before really taking on and beating the Gyms in the two Gyms I've beaten. Not nearly as much as before, though. It's not like there's no challenge, there's just much less of one... which isn't quite as stimulating, but allows you to get the fuck on with it much better.

Also, from the two Gyms I've seen so far, the Gym leaders always seem to have some move that will kick your ass, even if you don't have to level up quite as much to beat them. I mean, Retaliate? What the fuck was that?? It totally owned my sorry ass the first time I tried to battle Lenora.

I can't lie, I'm loving the shit out of this game. I love the rivals, the towns, the new pokemon, the battle animations-- have you gotten to Castellia city yet? Get there. It is the coolest fucking thing, and actual CITY with skyscrapers and docks and awesomeness.

I do agree that the Plasma peons are loldumb but N is awesome. I really want to figure out what he's doing and why.

a-also I typically don't have a full team of 6 until I find all the pokemon I actually want to use? Right now I only have a team of 4... I'm still waiting for scraggy to show up!

Oh god, I know right? I'm only just passing the second Gym but it's all so good...I am actually making it a point to Talk To Everyone since, for once? I don't know the places inside and out!

N needs a haircut. :|

LMFAO IT'S OK I TEND NOT TO EITHER. Swapping things out is so hard. ;;

I know this is kind of an old post, but thank god someone shares my feelings! This generation is almost too easy. I picked Charmander and I remember spending forever trying to find a Nidoran M on route 22 just for its Double Kick. These kids have the type advantage handed to them? Or the fact that TMs are limitless now. I mean it makes my job so much easier, but these kids deserve to have to figure out how to use TMs wisely. All the gyms are easy and then the Elite Four is pretty tough, so maybe its kind of a sucker punch to newbies.

I never noticed the thing about how "some people just do three" but it might be a nod to the triple and rotation battles. Besides these few complaints, I actually adore these new games, which are my favorite since Gold and Silver and thier remakes.

I love a lot of the nwe pokemon, like the electric zebra and the deer that changes with the seasons. And the huge ass native american eagle. Some of the new pokemon could rip your arm off, beat you with it, and you would thank them, theyre that awesome/badass
