You may have heard the recent Republican catch phrase "in the tank" that's suddenly on the lips of every conservative parrot like it means something.

Well, hearken back to simpler times, when "in the tank" referred only to actual tanks and things being inside them.

"Tanking" has been around for a while. Maybe Quayle or Bush (or someone less famous with similar oratorial skills) tried to use the phrase and "in the tank" came out?
