There are two tricks to dealing with live trees.

Firstly, when you get it set up, give it a good burst of bug spray and you'll deal with the majority of the little pests.

b) Either invest in a Live Tree Stand (which you put water in) which will minimise needle loss, or get hold of a can of the stuff that sticks them on.
