I broke my D string about an hour and a half before my exam, which meant firstly that I had no warm up/practice, but also the replacement they gave me at the music shop when I asked for one of equivalent quality was this disgusting tinny evil string. I spent much of my exam trying not to play on it and playing on the A instead which thre of my positionings. :/
Aww, shit. That's awful. Why did they not have non-crappy strings at the store? That's a good argument for keeping a spare set of strings in your case. I never did when I played in high school, but I always had these dreams of the day I'd be financially independent and could buy a spare set. Ahh
( ... )
They did, but I didn't want one that would be -better- tha my other strings, I wanted one the same, and that's what they told me it was before it was fitted by which time it was too too late :( I have some spare strings at home but was not smart enough to bring them -- my A string broke the first night of Ruddigore, too. I guess they're pretty old. ;)
I don't know that I could cope with an electric cello, but I bet you could. It would be awesome and rock-star-like. How long and expensive is minimum rent on the yuck cellos?
