No drinking coffee while driving?

Today, the lady who takes care of my mom part time told me that a law had been passed in NY making it illegal to drink coffee while driving. That a $200 fine can be levied upon offenders. (I don't think it was a coffee specific thing, but more of a 'drinking/distraction' thing ( Read more... )

I believe that studies show the biggest distraction while driving is a child in the backseat, which thwy can't very well legislate away.

that seems really hard to enforce.

When do they draw the line?

Plexiglass barriers between front and back seats?

no radios?

no food or drink?

Exactly. Does it then become illegal to change the station on the radio while the car is in motion?

That's assuming what she said was true, which I'm not convinced of.

I just thought to wonder what sort of reaction long haul truck drivers would have to legislation saying they can't eat, drink or (presumably) smoke while they drive.

I've had in my car and on all at the same time.

1 GPS system
1 CB radio
1 Ham Radio
1 Cell Phone
1 Scanner
1 AM/FM Radio

and yes, I was using them all at once.

i usually stay up on the news and i haven't seen this. I know its been discussed, but i haven seen anything about it becoming a law.
