Okay, suppose you were cleaning trash out of a rather steep dish and, being a fool, decided to try to climb OUT of the ditch by putting all of your weight on your left leg, whereupon you heard an ominous "pop" and had a blinding flash of pain -- and, since yesterday evening, can't put any weight at all on your left knee? Even the helpful diagnostic chart says go to the doctor!

ACL is the most likely culprit, but it could be some other tissue or ligament/tendon-type tear, or a meniscus or cartilage injury. There are nonsurgical options, which might be best for you, even, since you're not a high-impact sports type-- physical therapy and knee braces and the like -- but you need a doctor's advice, and I am not a clinician.

As for MRI, a good physical exam by an experienced doctor can actually tell you as much or almost as much as an MRI, so.

Having working legs, while not necessary, is very helpful in the general business of life. Untreated small problems can create much bigger problems down the road.

Go get it checked out!

It may not be an ACL, and, as S says, there are nonsurgical ways to deal with many such problems.
