*Gasp* You've been updating this blog. I guess I should look at it every now and then :) . Cool picture. I read your post in Quark. Were you trying to make the mountain look really tall? If so, I think it may look a bit short because there's not much to contrast it against.
Part of the reason the mountain looks so short is the distance involved. The texture on the mountain makes it a little difficult to tell, but the peak is actually fairly far back away from the water.
I wasn't trying to make it all that tall, though. I was mostly trying to explain to Onlera about how the water was refracting/reflecting the mountain. 3D raytracing has been pretty accurate with light rays for a while, so I can't really make the ripples reflect the mountain less in that spot unless I either get rid of the ripples or make the mountain shorter (which wouldn't really fix the problem anyway).
Yeah, I figured the ruins were more the focus of your picture. In which case making the mountain too prominent could arguably detract from the picture. I was just noting that mountains tend to look really small, unless they have something to contrast against to show distance. IE a person, house, statue, etc.
Nice, I really like the arch/ruins with the vines and the runes. The only thing that puts me off is that it looks overly bright which makes everything seem a little off. But otherwise, really cool, and a really fun concept.
I'm thinking about changing the water back to a version I had before, which makes it look a little less bright. I'm also wanting to do some HDRI variations that make the colors change a bit for different lighting conditions.
