Because you have to have them. Same way with pharmaceuticals. Think it really costs that much to make AIDS medicine? Nope. But people with AIDS have to have it, so they get gouged. Or how about an MRI? I doubt it really costs ten grand to turn the thing on and have someone look at the pictures it makes for an hour.
