The crickets have returned. When I stand on my balcony late at night it's quite unreal, knowing leopard toad breeding season is upon us and hearing the crickets as well a multitude amphibian chorus.

Yes, 'What do I really want?' is a good focusing question. I wouldn't say I hate 'humanity', but it does seem there are many unevolved sorts running around, getting stupider every day who simply should not breed.

Meanwhile, it's better to strengthen oneself with highly cultured associations. Humanity is not defined by its lowest common denominators.

And we're doing just that. The people we associate with the most are all creatives of one feather or another. But in general, we withdraw from the mallrats and keep to ourselves.

Heh. I sometimes think I hate humanity. Years ago, I met a marvelous woman who also hated humanity and said she refused to join groups in general because they magnify the worst qualities of all the individuals in them. So she & I hated humanity together, and were best friends. We could have started a group for those who refuse to join groups. :)
"What do I want?" is probably a good start toward finding like-minded people. Living away from humanity altogether doesn't seem possible.
BTW, your descriptions of local weather & scenery make me grateful for the 'net, since I don't know if I'll ever see the Cape for myself. (It's a very long way from mid-Canada.)

Even if we do move to NYC or California for a few years, which is my intention once I'm able to cut ties with my current employer, I'll be keeping the property here in SA. I've grown to love the Treehaus far too much.
