Few things in the life of a fangirl are more irritating than reading over 160,000 words of a fanfic# only to discover it's not complete, IT JUST HASN'T BEEN UPDATED IN OVER A YEAR

I'm always a little fearful of long fanfics if they aren't marked complete, because YES, I know it would be really difficult for me to hold on to my determination to finish it. Even with no real life problems or obstacles, I'd still be hard-pressed to keep writing something with enthusiasm over the course of just a year, nevermind several years.
I don't usually bother starting to read fics that aren't complete, for that very reason. I just thought that this one was. I'd seen it talked about as though it were complete, and I thought I'd seen the "C" flag (which, by the way, is really difficult to see on a kindle screen), I WAS JUST WRONG.
I started to get suspicious around chapter 20 of 28, thinking that it was all going to have to be wrapped up pretty abruptly. By chapter 26, I was sure it couldn't be complete, but I just wanted to read as much of it as possible.
I feel kind of bad for the author, because even as recently as last month, there are a bunch of begging reviews like "OMG this is so great you HAVE to write more. PLEASE UPDATE!" and I'm just thinking "why in the world would she?" I mean, to go for a year without updating something you've put that much effort into is an indication that there's a pretty good reason you haven't so far. Also, who needs that kind of pressure to live up to expectations?
