only as interesting as you make it

I'm bored, and have a hundred other things I should be doing, so...

TOP 5 ME! Books, art, culture, politics, music, fandom stuff, movies, television, anything. Ask as many as you'd like. Be vague. Be specific. I don't care if it's mundane or off the wall.

*is confused*

P.S. I will answer with something. At some point. And this post is in no way a stalling tactic. Nuh uh.

Well then, that's just mean. Hardest. Question. Ever. I no longer feel at all guilty about the question I asked you. Just so you know.

Okay, off the top of my head, in no particular order, and with the obvious get-out clause that this is liable to change at any moment, possibly even before I finish typing it:

1. The musical episode of Buffy. I loathe, hate and abhor musicals (except Calamity Jane-long story), and I hate gimicky episodes of anything, but that episode is a thing of genius and a joy forever. Except the last 15 seconds or so. Me = not a Buffy/Spike fan.

2. Serenity. I love the film itself, but it's more the idea of it. The fact that a show that lasted less than a season because of network meddling could get a Big Damn Movie still amazes me.

3. The diner scene from "The Big Nickel", a.k.a. the point where I went from loving Sam and Andy to SHIPPING THEM LIKE BURNING.

4. The timeline switch at the start of season 4 of Eureka. It took the show from something I kind of vaguely watched to something I ABSOLUTELY COULD NOT ( ... )

Top 5 children's books!

Oooh, nice. I'm going to cheat and include some YA stuff, but my excuse is that YA wasn't really a thing (at least, not in the UK) when I was a teenager-anything that wasn't for adults was for children.

In no particular order:

1. Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery. And not just because Anne is my actual name, although that probably was what drew me to it in the first place.

2. The Dark is Rising by Susan Cooper. I love the whole series, but this is the best of them.

3. A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett. The first book of mine that fell apart because I read it so often. Not the last.

4. BFG by Roald Dahl. I don't think I've met a book of his I didn't like, but at one point I knew this almost word-for-word.

5. The House at Pooh Corner by A.A. Milne. I generally loathe anthropomorphism, but it's actually physically impossible to hate the Pooh-Bear. I've checked.

YA totally wasn't a thing when I was a kid either (in Canada, at the very least).

I love ALL of those books, but most especially the BFG. I'm looking at the copy I keep on my shelf right now--I STILL totally re-read that thing when I'm in a really sour mood. That and Peter Pan.

I hate cucumbers, so I always assumed that snozzcumbers tasted like them. Or like gherkins, which are also evil.

Oooh, I forgot about Peter Pan, although I don't think I've read it quite enough times for it to make the list anyway.

I still re-read The Dark is Rising almost every mid-winter.

W00t!

Top five classic actors in no particular order, except number 1:

1. Cary Grant
2. Gregory Peck
3. Katharine Hepburn
4. Audrey Hepburn
5. Jimmy Stewart

Top five classic movies (again, in no particular order because I can't choooooose):

1. His Girl Friday
2. The Philadelphia Story
3. Roman Holiday
4. It Happened One Night
5. The Awful Truth

Top five Chuck/Blair moments (not really in any order either, except the first one):

1. The scene after his father's funeral and her mother's wedding, where she finds him sitting on her bed and he just looks at her, and she runs across and hugs him so tightly, AND MY HEART BURSTS FROM FEELS.

2. Season 3 episode 2, where she's had a horrible time and he's had a horrible time, and she just climbs into bed and asks him if he's okay, and he says "I am now" and kisses her hand.

3. Pretty much every interaction they have in Victor/Victrola, but especially the bit where they're in the back of the limo and he just looks across at her and tells her she was amazing up there ( ... )

Oh Ed, you and your magic face.

*sigh* Yes, that #2 moment's so ... couple-y. There's just the two of them, with no scheming and no games, honestly taking comfort from each other's presence. I think it's probably one of the most under-rated them-as-a-couple scenes (although I do see plenty of love for it on tumblr).

Heh. There were a disturbing number of pictures of Gregory Peck tagged as Cary Grant last week. O_o

Oh my, I Have only seen one of your favorite classic movies. I will have to fix that.

You will. You will have to fix that. How is it even possible? I will say that if you like Bringing Up Baby and The Philadelphia Story you are almost guaranteed to enjoy His Girl Friday.

The Awful Truth is another film with lots of Chuck/Blair parallels, although it's possible that I'm seeing C/B parallels in everything these days.

HAHAHAHAHA!!! I was sure you'd just go "WTF?" with the numbers thing! I am so pleased it wasn't as dumb as I thought it was going to be! HEEEEE!

Katherine Pierce/everyone ever This is the correct answer.

I aim to please.

Katherine Pierce is always the right answer.

I miiiiiiiiiiiiiiss her. I mean, I get it, because they're trying to show Elena struggling with who she is when she's not defining herself as NOT!Katherine (and probably they want to give Nina Dobrev and her magic face a bit more rest), but damnit, I wants me some Katherine.

I HAVE NOT, because I'm a lilly-livered coward! And also I thought I had until June!! That's Canada: wavin' their maple flag, screwin' up my Feelings Timetable...
