Logan claimed not to know, but when have we ever needed to say it? Things between us always just fell together - almost as easily as they've always fallen apart. But maybe the third time really will be the charm - maybe this time, we'll stay broken up. Because, when it comes to Logan Echolls, I have a painful tendency to make a fool of myself.

Sam was walking into the Green Arrow Estates and saw Veronica looking flushed and conflicted. Coming up behind her and laying a hand on her shoulder, he turned her to look at him, scanning her face. "Hey, you lost or something?" he asked with a little smile. He could see that something was wrong, but didn't want to ask what just yet.

Veronica's muscles tensed beneath the touch as she turned to see Sam. Despite all the things running through her mind, she managed to offer him a genuine, if small, smile. It had been too long.

"I have the sense of direction of a broken compass," she joked.

"No worries," he said easily, gesturing up the path. "Wanna come in? I don't really have anything in the way of comforts to offer you - no mini bar chez Seaborn, unfortunately."

"And I was just lusting after a gin and tonic, too," she sighed playfully, although the light snark seemed to come with more effort than usual. Veronica turned on her heel to walk backward before him in the direction he pointed. "That'd be nice, yeah." She didn't want to go back to the Compound. Not now.
