(Though I'm not entirely sure what a character from the late 19th century would be doing in a futuristic sci-fi anime... Just the animators having fun with the fandom, I guess.)
I really hope you enjoy this series because I love it. [And look in your local bookstore for the manga too? cos that is love too]
Regarding the Serge cameo. There are quite a few characters from other Takemiya Keiko's works used in this anime. Serge and a lot of other KazeKi characters, their first name and their face got used for some minor characters. And that's what I called cameo, and that's also what's been recognised [and somewhat parodied] by many Japanese fans. The use of these characters also got a mention in the Japanese entry of Towards the Terra. I believe Serge [<- what I'm calling him, tis his name afterall] comes out in ep 17
( ... )
no, I think the anime chucked in all those characters because they thought it'd gain popularity, and I don't care that it's a bait because to see Serge being animated so prettily like this makes me feel really really happy [and then my mind wanders off and I plot happy endings for him and Gilbert;]
although Takemiya-sensei is the original author, anime character design is by... Yuuki someone; I can't remember his first name;;; and even though I love the designs she had in the manga too, I think updating it to a new look in this anime is really lovely too~~~ [and I was looking through my sister's Cosmore just then and there was an amazing cosplay of Keith and Matsuka]
Bombard me with questions! I'll try my best to answer them.

I can already tell I'm gonna love it.
Heh, maybe she got tired of designing two sets of characters and decided to...recycle?
