Psychology Chapter 2- Perception (The Point Of The 3 Illusions)

Oct 12, 2006 16:21

Man...I haven't been bombarded with so many comments in so long! It seems as though quite a few of my friends were interested in those three images I posted up yesterday. Some people had a hard time with the first image; others couldn't quite catch on to the second image, which is fine. But even though I already revealed the answers via screened ( Read more... )

Why are high-contrast pictures of cows so hard to recognize? when I was a child, I used to think that the Prarie Farms logo was an ugly, mis-shapen litter monster thing. I might never have seen it as a cow unless someone told me it was. I must say, though, it still took me a while after that to change my percepsion of it enough to see the cow. o_0 I think you should have a talk with my mother. She thought I was retarded because of that. DX'

It is ok that it took you a while to see the cow. It doesn't mean you are retarded or anything like that. For that particular example, you just couldn't see the cow. I am 100% sure that if I gave you a picture that was a bit harder then this one, you might be able to solve the illusion before your mother can. In fact, I am sure you would be able to see these kinds of things before me in other examples, and vice-versa. It all depends on how much you know about what you are trying to find. ;)

Wow, that first one was hard for me! Even after you said what it was. But anyway, that was an awesome entry. I hope you do more of this :D

I am glad you had fun with this. It really keeps me going. The cow image can be a pain at first, for sure. Oh and I will do more...you can count on it. ;)

I still can't see the young women, no matter how many times you tell me there's one there lol.

The mind works best with images, that's why we can remember faces but sometimes forget the name of the person wearing it.

I think the Diana example is a little different because I've never seen her in the flesh, so it'll take a few extra seconds than normal to recognise her. I totally see what you mean though, if you don't expect a person to be in that place it shocks you for a few seconds.

I think most of this is what the mind does but we never think about it, it's just something that happens but we don't realise it. That's why it's so strange when someone tells us all about it.

...and I got mentioned for an example, cool ;-)
