Jin was not sure why his grandma had made a fuss on the way he dressed that day. ‘Why?’ he had asked.

“A special person is coming here today.”

“A special person?” 7 year old Jin tilted his head to the side.

His grandma smiles and he liked how it brightens up her face. It seems like she was very happy that the person is coming to their home. So he decides that he’s going to like this ‘special person’ too.

When the person finally arrived, he was at the backyard with his friend from school, Tomo-kun. They were talking about school and Ryoko the prettiest girl in school. Jin knew that Tomo likes Ryoko and so does he, but… he thinks that he’s going to let it past. A best buddy is more important than some girl.

“Ah!” Tomo cried suddenly, pointing to his left.

Jin quickly turned to where Tomo is gesturing. A little boy in a red coat with black shorts was standing at the slide door, staring at them curiously.

“Who are you?” Jin asked.

The boy blinked and smiled. His eyes crinkled as he smiled.

“I’m Kazuya.”

Tomo poked at his ribs, furrowing his brows.

“I don’t like him,” Tomo whispered.

Jin looked at Tomo questioningly. “Why?”

He was sure that Tomo was blushing but he wasn’t sure what the cause of it was. And with the stubborn look of his, Tomo simply said, “Just because.”

Jin turned to look at the little boy and then back to Tomo.

“I think I’m going to like him,” Jin announced nodding his head curtly. He had given Ryoko to Tomo, at least he’s going to keep this one. Well… he did decide that he’s going to like his grandma’s special person. And here, an unknown little boy is standing right in front of him. So his 7 year old mind guessed that this Kazuya is his grandma‘s special person.

Ignoring the pout on his friend’s face, Jin walked towards the other and grinned.

“So you’re the special person?”

“Spe-cial… person?”

Jin giggled as he ruffled the other’s hair.

“So you’ll be my special person too.”

It was on his eighth’s birthday when he get to know that Sho-kun is actually his grandma’s special person, but he didn’t care that much because Kazuya is already his own special person.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Jin was frustrated. He twirled his pen absently as an image kept on replaying in his head. Kazuya… laughing with Pi. And later that day he had pulled Pi towards the staircase wanting an explanation.

“I thought you said you didn’t like him.”

Pi sighed softly. “I’ve changed. People changed. And it has been 12 years.”

Jin grunted tetchily.

“Jin, did you honestly think that Kazuya will be following you around forever?” Pi asked.

“He has too.”

“He doesn’t have too. We all would grow up and have our own ways. We can’t hold on to the past.”

“He can’t leave me. Not yet.”

“So, it’s only fair if you’re the one who leaves him.” Pi said in disbelief. “I can’t believe that you can be so selfish.”

Pi’s mouth forms a straight a line. “And you’re going to leave him.”

Jin closed his eyes and let out a deep breath. Pi was right. He really should tell Kazuya about his transfer.

“What am I doing?” he hit his head against the table when a voice startled him.

“What are you doing?”

He looked up and stared at Kazuya’s amused face and his guilt started to eat him inside out.

“Nothing?”

Kazuya scoffed shaking his head. “Let’s go home.”

The younger boy was already at the door when Jin called his name.

“I think I need to tell you something.”

“Yeah?” Kazuya turned to him, a small smile on his face. Jin was hesitant. He was scared of this moment, the moment where he would tell Kazuya about his departure and even more if Kazuya decided to hate him for it. But, he couldn’t run forever.

“I’m going to… leave for America next week.”

Kazuya looked down to his feet. Jin wasn’t sure if the boy was angry or not but then, he looked up and smiled that gentle smile of his, whispering. “Yeah, I know.”

It made him even guiltier.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………..

Both of them are lying on the floor, lights off, staring at the clear night sky. It was full moon that night and the light from the moon fills the room.

Jin turned to his side and gazed at Kazuya’s profile. Kazuya wasn’t good looking in the earlier days but as he grew up, Jin really thought that he’s beautiful. Well… he had thought Kazuya looked adorable the first time they met.

“You know… you really looked good in red.” Jin murmured absently.

“Jin… saves it for your girlfriends. I don’t need the flattering.” Kazuya snorted.

“Hey… I’m being sincere.”

Kazuya turned to him, raising a brow. “That comment is random. It makes me suspicious.”

Jin pouted. “I just remembered the first time we met. That’s all.”

Kazuya looked at him strangely as if asking ‘what the hell are you talking about?’

“You, in a red coat.”

“Oh…” Kazuya grinned. “I barely remembered anything from that time.” And paused. “The only thing I remembered is that wide smile on your face when you said I’m your special person.”

Jin stared at Kazuya’s smiling face. It was strange… the feelings he had right now. He was sure that it was not love because he knew that he had an unrequited love with a fellow classmate. You couldn’t love two people at a time… right? And he didn’t know why he had asked Kazuya this…

“Am I your special person?”

Kazuya blinked and sat up, looking down at him furrowing his brows.

“Eh?”

He couldn’t back off now. “Am I your special person?”

It was quiet and it suffocates him. He shouldn’t have asked. What if Kazuya just shrugged it off, saying that it was absurd about the fact that two boys can be a special person to each other. And he was about to laugh it off acting that it was only a joke when Kazuya’s timid voice answer his question.

“Yes, Jin. You’re my special person.”

He knew it was wrong when he leaned towards the other and kissed those pouty lips softly, but he couldn’t help himself. The moment was perfect and he could feel his heart jumped out towards the younger boy.

It had been perfect but he got bold pushing Kazuya onto the floor gently. Jin could feel Kazuya tensed by his touch but he chose to ignore it. He is Kazuya’s special person. Kazuya would let him touch.

“Jin… stop.”

“Why would I?” his kisses trailed down to Kazuya’s neck.

“No… stop.”

Jin ignored the pleadings and when Kazuya’s palm made contact with his face, he finally snaps out of it. He let go and Kazuya quickly scooted away from him.

“Oh… god… I’m sorry… I…”

The younger boy was looking at him. A disbelief and terrified look on his face.

“I…” Jin moved forward and Kazuya curled himself tightly at a corner.

“I’m sorry… I thought that it was okay… but… don’t you feel the same way?”

He wanted to cry. He ruined it all… it was perfect and he ruined it…

“Kazu-“

Kazuya sniffed loudly hiding his face away from him.

“I’m sorry… I’m sorry…”

Jin stared at a window from the street. He knew perfectly well whose window it was. He wanted to apologize but Kazuya refused to meet anyone and he didn’t even go to school for the whole week. Pi had given him accusing looks asking him what had happened. But he just shook his head saying that it was nothing.

He left, without seeing Kazuya and after a month when he finally gets the courage to ask Yamapi about the other, Pi was hesitant.

“Uh… he’s okay, annoying as before.”

“Oh… I’m happy to hear that.”

Silence.

“Jin… tell me the truth. What actually happened between you and Kazuya that night?”

“I told you before, it’s noth-“

“It’s not Jin. It’s something. Something big… “Pause “…Because he forgets all about you.”

His world turned black, as the phone slipped away from his grasp. He slumped down onto the floor with a dull thud. And he finally cried…
