CHAPTER 5
He could see the moon from where he was laying. He wasn’t sure where he was and why he was there but he knew that he had been crying himself to sleep.
…………………………………………………………………………………………………
“Yuichi… come with me to Hawaii?”
The person on the other line chuckled earnestly and Kazuya pouted in response.
“What are you laughing at?!”
Yuichi sighed. “Kazuya, you couldn’t run every time things didn’t work out like you thought it would be.”
“I know…” he answered timidly. “But there this one guy-“
“Ah! You liked him?!!!” Yuichi asked scandalously.
“NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
“You don’t have to shout, it hurts my ears.”
“Sorry…”
“Okay, tell me about it.”
Kazuya took a deep breath, and started to tell Yuichi everything that had happened between him and Jin. And as expected, Yuichi laughed his head off.
“Oh… Kazuya… it sounds like a drama.”
“A gay drama I supposed,” Kazuya drawled sarcastically.
“But really… you punched him? Tat-chan would be so proud of you.”
Kazuya bit his lip, furrowing his brows and finally letting out a sigh.
“As much as I dislike the person, I really thought he didn’t deserve it. “
“Why?”
Kazuya could hear the amusement in Yuichi’s voice but he chose to ignore it.
“I felt guilty every time I saw his bruised face. You shouldn’t feel guilty if you think he do deserved it isn’t it? And I do think that I kind of lead him on…”
Silence.
“You liked him.” Yuichi stated bluntly.
“I’m not sure… it’s a like-hate kind of thing.” He replied seriously totally missing out the implication of the statement.
“No, I mean as like ‘like’.”
He knew that Yuichi was smiling that ‘motherly’ way of his at the other end and Kazuya could feel his mouth curled upwards into a small smile although he knew that he should have been screaming bloody murder denying it.
“You are smiling.” Yuichi’s tone is full of amusement.
Kazuya scoffed but smiling nevertheless.
“You are getting on my nerves but I really missed you… and Tat-chan…”
“Are you trying to change the subject?”
“No. I really missed both of you. And I missed my mom… and dad… and Shouji… Kouji… Yuya…”
“And Kyoko?”
Kazuya could feel his heart skipped a beat by the mentioned of her name. But that was it.
“Yeah and Kyoko too…”
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………
Kazuya stared at the shelf in front him. He had been working in the storage room for about a week and he had actually screech stubbornly, his hands clasping the door frame tightly every time his grandpa tried to pull him out to the counter.
He could hear Aoi-san voice asking about him and his grandpa’s resigned voice telling them that his grandson is in that time of the month and had the largest zit on his face. Kazuya cracked his knuckles. That grandpa of his is really going to pay.
“And he’d said that he didn’t want Jin-kun to see his face because it’s embarrassing.”
His grandpa chuckled loudly while Aoi-san just giggled. Kazuya’s brow twitched. That does it.
“GRAND-“
“Jin-kun!”
Kazuya felt his heart stopped when he heard the name and quickly turned back, went to the end of the store supply room and sat there. He knew he was acting cowardly but… he didn’t know how to face the other. And the fact that Jin came everyday makes it worse.
“You’re pathetic Kazuya…” he murmured to himself.
“You are if you keep on hiding here,” his grandpa’s voice broke his thoughts.
Kazuya glanced up and his grandpa was looking at him with a worried look on his face.
“What happened? Jin-kun is looking for you… well he didn’t ask directly, but I know from the way his face fell every time he sees me at the counter.”
Kazuya shook his head. “Nothing.”
“It’s not nothing. I know my grandson and his tendencies to hid back in his shell every time something wrong happens.”
Kazuya bit his bottom lip, frowning. “Yeah… something happened…”
“It was obvious. He did have a large bruise on his face.”
Kazuya let out a deep breath.
“Kazuya, if you feel bad about it. Just tell him.”
His grandpa ruffled his hair smiling affectionately. “Don’t hide anymore.”
………………………………………………………………………………………………..
Kazuya turned the store lights off when he heard the door clanged open. Someone was standing at the door and even though he couldn’t see the other’s face clearly, he perfectly sure that he knew who it was.
“Hey…”
He was right. Jin. Kazuya flashed him a wary smile.
Jin took a deep breath “Sho-kun told me that you’ll be here at this hour. Alone. And with no means could avoid me anymore. ”
Kazuya rolled his eyes inwardly. That’s why his grandpa had that look on his face when he left earlier and forcing him to close the store. He should have known. His grandpa could be tricky sometimes.
“Let’s talk.”
“I don’t have anything to talk about,” he tried to sound calm but failed.
Jin took a step closer into the light and he in reflex took a step back.
“Are you afraid of me?” Jin asked brows furrowed.
“Kind of…” Kazuya replied earnestly.
Jin laughed softly his face in amusement but it doesn’t sound as amused as Kazuya expected.
“I really tried to make it up to you all this time but it seems like I’m making it worse.”
And at that exact moment, he felt a sense of déjà-vu. That he had been in this situation before, where Jin was staring at him with those eyes and only the light from the moon illuminates the room. But somehow the image of Jin that he saw right now looked younger than the present Jin.
A flashback?
The younger Jin looked at him pleadingly and said…
“Don’t you feel the same way?”
