CHAPTER 3
“You made this?” Kazuya smiled brightly and nodded his head.
“Yeah, do you like it?” The elderly woman he gets to know as Aoi-san smiles widely taking a bite at the piece of cake in her hand.
“It’s very nice.”
He beamed proudly. “Do you want another piece Aoi-san?”
“What about me? Can I have a piece?”
Kazuya’s mood dampened when he heard his voice.
“Ah… Jin-kun, you must try this.” The elderly woman greeted the other excitedly.
Kazuya glanced at the other that was now smiling warmly at Aoi-san and it got onto his nerves. No wonder everyone in town seems to like him. Everybody had been fooled by that gentle smile of his but not him, not Kamenashi Kazuya.
“Can I try one?” Kazuya looked away when the other turned to him. Aoi-san is looking at him expectantly and he just couldn’t refuse.
“Yeah, sure.” He said flatly giving Jin a piece and he knew he had made a mistake for looking at the other. Jin was smiling earnestly at him and Kazuya could feel his perception towards Jin wavering. He quickly broke the eye contact.
“Ah! I better get going now. See you tomorrow Kazuya-chan.”
“I’ll be waiting! See you tomorrow Aoi-san.”
The door clanged shut and it was only the two of them left. He stopped smiling when he turned to the other man.
“Why are you here?”
“This is a convenience store.” Jin stated.
“Duh, I know this is a convenience store. But you don’t have to be leisurely standing here. Just buy something and go.”
The taller man sighed softly. “Look… I’m sorry.”
Kazuya looked at him warily. “What did you just said?”
“I’m sorry.”
This is strange. Did he actually apologize? Why?
“I was mad at something that day and the other day and I lashed it out on you. I’m sorry.”
Kazuya stared at Jin’s face trying to read the other’s expression. He looked sincere enough though.
“I guess… apology taken…”
The other sighed in relief and grinned widely at him. This is indeed strange. How come the hostile Jin-kun turned out to be this dorky-gentle-smiling guy?
“I really don’t want you to hate me,” Jin mumbled under his breath and it was so slow that he had to strain his ears to hear it.
“What did you just said?” he asked to make sure.
“Nothing,” Jin quickly shook his head, the smile still adorned his face.
“I think I’ll be going now.” Kazuya nodded his head still feeling very much confused and suspicious as he watched the other walked towards the entrance. But before Jin could open the door, Kazuya spoke out.
“My grandpa said that we used to know each other before…”
Jin turned to him. “Yeah… we did.”
“But I don’t think I remember you.”
“It’s fine. I still remember you.” He said it with a very gentle look on his face that it somehow hurts.
“I’m sorry…”
He shrugged it off. “It’s okay.” And he left.
But somehow, Kazuya didn’t think that it was okay.
........................................................................................................................
Kazuya flipped the old photo album on his lap slowly.
‘Kazu-chan and Jin-chan’
In the picture were him and another boy. It was unmistakably Jin with his wide grin. Kazuya frowned. He really didn’t remember anything about the other.
“Reminiscing the past?” His grandpa sat next to him, taking the album from his lap.
Kazuya watched his grandpa turning the pages with a content smile on his face.
“Ah… the good old days…”
“Grandpa, why don’t I remember anything about him?” Kazuya asked softly.
“We tend to forget things that we don’t want to remember.” Kazuya stared at the pictures furrowing his brows. Puzzled.
“But I look so happy… people do remember about happy things don’t they? So why do I forget about him?”
“Only he could answer that question.” That knowing smile adorned his grandpa’s face.
Kazuya gave out a frustrated sigh. “I really don’t like it when you smiled at me that way.”
“Why?”
“I just don’t.” he said stubbornly while his grandpa chuckled heartily. But really; when his grandpa smiles that knowing smile of his… something is bound to happen.
CHAPTER 4
Kazuya really don’t know why Jin never does his own grocery shopping. It was either his grandma stops by or Kazuya delivering them to him. He glanced around feeling uneasy. This time his grandpa had asked him to deliver the groceries directly to the other’s house.
Kazuya scoffed softly. He was sure that there is something between his grandpa and Jin’s grandma. His grandpa just couldn’t stop grinning from ear to ear every time Manami-san is around.
“Manami-chan…” he murmured imitating his grandpa.
“What are you doing standing there talking to yourself?”
He looked around trying to find the source of the voice as he felt his cheeks burning in embarrassment.
The door creaked open and Jin stood in front of him barely dressed. “I saw you from the intercom.”
Oh…
“I saw everything…”
OH… OH…
“I promise I won’t tell Sho-kun about it.”
Kazuya giggled at Jin’s intonation. Uh… correction… Kamenashi Kazuya doesn’t do giggle. And why did he uh… manly giggle in the first place?
“You’re giggling.” Jin pointed out.
“No, I don’t.”
Jin grinned raising his hands in surrender. “Manly giggling, chuckling, laughing, whatever. I like it.”
Kazuya scoffed good-naturedly as he followed the other into the house. “That would not be working on me.”
“It’ll soon be.”
Kazuya rolled his eyes. “Say you who rejecting my advances before.”
“Yeah… and I regret it now. Can I have my second chance?” Jin asked, giving him a toothy grin.
Balancing the box with one arm, Kazuya smacked the other upside the head. It was strange that they are in a very good friendly term now despite their first and second horrible encounter. But Kazuya had started to enjoy being with Jin. As much as he hated to admit it, he also already had fallen under the older man’s charms.
But not in that way, nu-uh. Kamenashi Kazuya is definitely straight.
“Where should I put this?” he asked gesturing the box he’s holding.
“Just put it in the dining room.” As he placed the box onto the dining table, his eyes caught the view displayed in front of him. He gaped in admiration.
“It’s beautiful isn’t it?” Kazuya flinched in surprise, glaring at the other person in the room. Jin grinned in amusement as he steps to his side.
“You could give me a heart attack!” Kazuya muttered tetchily.
“I don’t think that could give you a heart attack.”
Kazuya scoffed and turned his attention back onto what he was staring at before.
“You’ve been staring at it for a while now. Like it?”
“Yeah.” He breathed out softly.
“That’s why I bought this place.” Kazuya gazed outside the window. The view was perfect. The sky was blue, the hills seem to gleam and the lake sparkles like blue diamonds… it looks unreal.
“You really like this town huh?”
“Yeah,” Jin replied softly.
“Why?”
“All the best things in my life happen here. My first step into the world, my first love, my first heartbreak…”
“Heartbreak is bad.” Kazuya stated.
“Can’t you keep your mouth shut? You just destroyed my reminiscing moment.” Jin said, annoyed.
Kazuya turned to the other laughing. “Well, make me.”
Kazuya knew he shouldn’t have said that the moment he noticed the look on Jin’s face. It had happened so fast that he had problem catching up. He was already pressed against the window with Jin’s lips on his. Jin’s lips are soft and warm… and he started to feel dizzy… in a good kind of way though. He closed his eyes and returned the kiss feeling a little bit anxious but he decided to blame it all on the lacking of sex his getting for the past 2 months.
They broke the kiss when they’d deprived each other from oxygen. Kazuya could feel Jin’s smile against his cheek and that somehow made him smiled too.
“I know that you’ll like it…” Jin whispered.
It’s not what Jin had whispered in his ears but it’s the way he said it made him stilled.
Jin leaned again for another kiss and he turned his face away.
“Is making fun at me that entertaining?”
“What?”
“Get off me.” He pushed the other away and Jin sneered in sarcasm.
“Playing naïve now? It so does not suit you.”
Kazuya gave out a horrified gasp, blinking in disbelief and again, before he could stop himself a fist landed on Jin’s face.
Meanwhile, back at the store…
“Sho-kun, I’m worried about Kazu-chan.”
The elderly man just smiled and shook his head. “It’s Jin-kun you should be worrying about.”
