The following C.S. Lewis quote speaks to me on so many levels as, well I won't lie, it's something I've been guilty of most of my life and it's a lesson I've especially had to learn this year. Hopefully it learned me.
To love someone is the greatest gift we can give another. To be loved is the greatest gift we can be given. The miracle is when they happen simultaneously. That miracle is what is worth the vulnerability.

This is all too true, for both romantic and non-romantic senses. I wish I could say that I wasn't speaking from experience.
