Going Medieval

In which Neo gets medieval on that ass:

This post was inspired by a recent discussion with my internet wife, afro_dyte.

I'm always amazed at how many people are so quick to argue that people of color did not exist in Europe in medieval times or that black people for instance weren't around during the Greek and Roman times. And to include said POCs during such ( Read more... )

This is why I post a link every time they turn up yet another set of medieval and early modern remains of a black person in England. Rare? Yes, but they certainly existed. They have forensic evidence on top of the occasional literary or historical reference ( ... )

On the contrary, there was at least one: Macrinus. He was a Berber from Mauretania.

While I would like to say it's history that doesn't teach where Egypt is located I can't. Its on the map, clearly in Africa. Geography needs to be taught as well.

The Beethoven thing really pisses people off. They get so enraged, so quickly. It makes me shiver with glee right down to my boots whenever I get to bring it up in conversation.

Angel Coulby is wonderful in Merlin. Can't wait for the next season when she Queens it up.

One of my favorite anecdotes here is that due to one of the Roman legions in Roman-era Britannia having soldiers who were black in it, black Africans are actually more native to England than the English. ;P At the same time it's also worth reflecting that at least one Roman Emperor was African, Macrinus, I think. And this isn't even factoring into how Medieval Spain was ruled by two African dynasties, the Almoravids and Almohads, both of which were the last phases of unified Muslim rule of Al-Andalus.

Edit-And there's also Queen Zenobia of Palmyra, who was the first Arab ruler of an Arab state. Too, there's the Muslim Empire in Sicily. The Ottomans technically don't count as they were a modern Space-Filling Empire, not medieval. ;P And they also introduced to white people the concept of professional armies dependent on guns and artillery.....
