And one of my favorite quotes:

"First, I must confess that over the last few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate ( Read more... )

Shallow understanding from people of goodwill is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection."

Right there, that quote, quote of the millenium.

What it brings to my mind personally is that I used to work for a woman from Boston. She was this 'liberal feminist' blah blah blah but from a Pilgrim-descent family. She was such a racist it was pathetic that she tried to cover it up with her so-called liberal leanings. I remember when her daughter had a black guy friend come over and her daughter told me that her mother said "I don't---don't think that it's going to work between the two of you." Her daughter said " Uh Mom? We're just friends."

That's the kind of drivel that makes me sick. "I'm not racist BUT..." BUT you know you are, so just be the klan and say so. I don't give a shit about people like the Klan or the Aryan Nation. At least they're honest about who they hate. It's the people who live on my block and exist in the business world and society who pretend or think they understand and they have no fucking clue whatsoever. They make me sick.

Give me the Klan any day of the week. At least they're a lot more honest about their racism and don't try to sugarcoat it. You know exactly what you're dealing with.
